Ho Chi Minh City has put into service four bathrooms built in prime locations to serve the needs of dwellers and tourists as part of a bid to address a dearth of toilets in the city. The city’s administration approved the building of makeshift toilets on four out of five vacant land lots in downtown Ho Chi Minh City, according to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Natural Resources and Environment. They are located on Le Duan Boulevard, Hai Ba Trung, Nguyen Trung Truc and Nguyen Hue Streets. Each of these public toilets covers eight square meters and features a stall outside for selling goods. Earnings from this sale booth will be used to maintain the operation of these public bathrooms. The District 1 administration had earlier called on over 100 restaurants, eateries and coffee shops to offer gratis toilet service to residents and tourists. Police find $12,000 watch lost at Phu Quoc Airport 6 months ago
On Friday Mac Thanh Thao, 35, said her relatives are discussing with the police how to send the watch to her since she is now in the U.S., Giao Thong newspaper reported. The police did not reveal where or how they found it. On December 25 last year Thao’s family left Phu Quoc for Ho Chi Minh City after a three-day trip to the island. For security screening at the airport, she had put her personal belongings including the watch in a bag and placed it in a tray. At the other end, she found her watch missing. She frantically check the area but in vain. She immediately complained to customs officers. Xoi Bat in Ho Chi Minh City was the only sticky rice eatery in Vietnam to be named amongst the 29 establishments to Michelin Guide’s Bib Gourmand list. Bib Gourmand recognizes restaurants and eateries which serve great food at moderate prices. A total of 103 restaurants and eateries in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, including Xoi Bat, were honored by Michelin Guide on Tuesday. The Michelin Guide is world renowned guidebook which has been reviewing and recognizing exceptional restaurants around the world since 1900. Contractors file lawsuit against investor of expressway project in southern Vietnam
Some contractors of the Ben Luc-Long Thanh Expressway in southern Vietnam have filed a lawsuit against the state-owned Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC), the investor of the project, to the Singapore International Arbitration Center demanding compensation as the project has been put on hold for many years. The 57.8-kilometer Ben Luc-Long Thanh Expressway project passes through Ho Chi Minh City and its neighboring provinces of Long An and Dong Nai and is considered a key national project. The project, which carries a price tag of some VND31.32 trillion (US$1.3 billion), was approved in early 2010. It uses official development assistance (ODA) loans borrowed from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) as well as local reciprocal capital. Thomson Medical Group Ltd., a Singapore-based healthcare company, is engaged in advanced negotiations to acquire a majority stake in FV Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, which is backed by a French entity, Bloomberg reported on Thursday. According to the sources cited in the report, the group has emerged as the frontrunner in the competitive bidding process, surpassing other contenders. Additionally, the company is currently collaborating with a financial advisor to facilitate the potential acquisition. What HCMC’s Ring Road No.3 will look like
Ring Road 3 running 90 km and costing more than VND75.3 trillion (US$3.2 billion) will cross Ho Chi Minh City as well as Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Long An provinces. Its first phase will stretch 76 km long with four lanes and each locality will be in charge of clearing the site and building the section in their territory. An overpass will be built to link the ring road with HCMC – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway, which links Dong Nai and HCMC and connects with Dau Giay – Phan Thiet Expressway running from Dong Nai to the beach city of Phan Thiet. The section in HCMC will stretch 47 km and construction will start on June 18. Other localities plan to start work on the ring road late this month.
