Vietnamese plastic producer required to return $6.4mn to Japanese firm after losing lawsuit
Vietnamese plastic producer Rang Dong Holding JSC recently lost a lawsuit against Japan’s Sojitz Pla-Net Corporation regarding their shareholding agreement and is obligated to return nearly VND157 billion (US$6.4 million) to the Japanese corporation and pay for related fees and charges. In 2017, Sojitz Pla-Net Corporation and Rang Dong Holding inked a share transfer contract in which the former acquired five million shares at Rang Dong Long An Plastic JSC, a member of Rang Dong Holding, at over VND174 billion ($7.2 million). The Japanese firm made full payments for the batch. After the share transfer, Sojitz accused Rang Dong Holding of failing to fulfill its obligations as stated in the contract. As a result, the Japanese corporation terminated the contract and requested Rang Dong to return 90 percent of the paid share cost, equivalent to nearly VND157 billion. South Korea’s SK Group continues to deepen investment in Vietnam
SKC Co. Ltd. (SKC), a subsidiary of the SK Group , has received an investment certificate to develop a high-tech biodegradable materials factory in the northern port city of Hai Phong. With the total investment capital of $500 million, the factory specialises in producing biodegradable materials such as polybutylene adipate terephthalate and polybutylene succinate. The project spreads across an area of 32,089 square metres in the Haiphong I DEEP C Industrial Zone in the Dinh Vu-Cat Hai Economic Zone. In the first phase, the project will start construction in mid-December 2023, slated to be completed within nine months. The project is expected to reach an output of 35,000 tonnes by year-end. In the second phase, the company will increase the total output to 70,000 tonnes per year. For thousands of years, under the alluvial layer of the two rivers, deposits of rare and precious clay have been formed. They clay is the raw material to make red ceramic products, which Vinh Long is famous for. The pottery village along Co Chien river is known as the kingdom of red ceramics with more than 1,000 mushroom-shaped pottery kilns, some of them are up to 12 metres high. At first glance, the village looks like an ancient city with red castles under the sun. The village has become a popular destination for tourists. Locating at the Tra Noc II Industrial Park in O Mon district, the 18.6 million USD facility is capable of manufacturing 240,000 tonnes of high-quality feed products for tra and basa fish (Pangasius) per year. Hanoi, Shanghai businesses agree to build high-tech complexes
