Minutes before school attack, Texas gunman sent online warning
The gunman, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, also sent a message on Tuesday saying he was going to shoot his grandmother and another one confirming he had done so, Abbott said at a news conference. Ramos' grandmother, whom the suspect shot in the face shortly before attacking the school, survived and called police. Ramos gave no warning except the online posts. After shooting his grandmother, he fled the home they shared and crashed his car near Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, about 80 miles (130 km) west of San Antonio. A school police officer approached him outside the building, according to officials, but no gunfire was exchanged. Authorities offered few additional details of that encounter, which is likely to become a focus of investigations, except that the suspect dropped a bag full of ammunition on the ground and ran toward the school when he saw the officer. American doctor’s endless love for Vietnamese ethnic minority cultures
Lê Hương & Minh Phương When listening to him talk for hours and hours about the objects he found by chance on trips to different mountainous regions, it is easy to see Mark Rapoport's passion for the ethnic groups of Việt Nam. Mark has years living in Hà Nội with his wife, where they have been collecting utensils from ethnic minority groups. Earlier this month, he donated 500 objects from his collection to the Vietnamese Women’s Museum. In the summer of 1969, Mark was in his final year of medical school, when the American War in Việt Nam dominated the headlines. He was strongly against the war, protesting, signing petitions and contributing money. The American Medical Association each year sent 100 doctors to Việt Nam to work in hospitals caring for Vietnamese civilians. As he was not yet a qualified doctor, he was assigned to do a research paper in Việt Nam. He joined in setting up a tuberculosis vaccination programme at a leper colony outside Đà Nẵng, while … [Read more...] about American doctor’s endless love for Vietnamese ethnic minority cultures

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh (right) met with Charles R. Kaye, CEO of Warburg Pincus, VNA Following the visit by Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to the United States last week, a number of American business leaders have expressed their confidence in Vietnam as a compelling story for them to generate alpha. Charles R. Kaye, CEO of private equity firm Warburg Pincus, highlighted interest in Vietnam’s policy of restricting foreign ownership limits (FOL) in banking, set at 30 per cent for private commercial banks and 20 per cent for state-owned banks. The FOL barrier, consequently, could hamper international financing sources flowing to Vietnamese banks. With a diverse portfolio, Warburg Pincus is now a prominent US backer, spending over $2 billion on a range of companies and joint ventures such as Techcombank, MoMo, Vincom Retail, BW Industrial, Lodgis, and The Grand Ho Tram Strip, among others. “There are some significant issues that investors are always interested … [Read more...] about US institutions here to help local leverage
