The first wind farm on a continental shelf in Southeast Asia is situated in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu. Launched in 2018, the OCOP programme focuses on developing specialty products and high-quality products in rural areas to increase incomes for locals and boost the sustainability of economic development in rural areas. OCOP products are commercial products and services such as food and beverages, handicrafts and rural tourism services. They are classified as having one to five stars. More power plants are expected to come on stream to feed the country's burgeoning power demands The remainder are mostly hydropower plants with a combined capacity of nearly 1,700MW, and one waste-to-power plant with 30MW annual capacity. Nguyen Van Thanh has colon cancer Nguyen Van Thanh had to call for community help to overcome the difficulties. He has colon cancer and suffers from constant pain. As his daughter started crying nearby, he tried to reach out to hold her. "My wife just went out to buy medicines," he said. "The pain is especially crushing today." Tran Thi Cuong, Thanh's wife, said they met in 2007 and quickly got married afterwards. Thanh doesn't know who his father is and his mother abandoned him at three years old. He lived with his old grandfather. When he got married, his uncle let them live in a small house.
