Technology – key for 30Shine’s rapid development

Technology has helped 30Shine quickly expand its operations. — VNS Photo The application of technology, especially Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud, has helped Vietnamese-run 30Shine – one of the hair-salon chains for men – expand both home and abroad. Established in 2015, 30Shine has become a phenomenon for men because of a new haircut experience accompanied by many steps of care exclusively for men. In the past, 30Shine had only a few stores located along a number of large streets that cater to the stars and connoisseurs. The chain now has 80 stores serving young people in 20 cities and provinces nationwide with a total staff of more than 3,000. 30Shine has also expanded its multinational system when operating its first overseas store in Bangkok, Thailand in 2019. All 30Shine operations are managed through a single system. 30Shine is creating a modern business model that combines two elements of fashion and technology. Bui Quang Hung, co-founder and marketing manager of 30Shine, said: “With traditional management, business owners can directly manage several stores. But when the number of hair salons reaches 80, spread across 20 cities nationwide like 30Shine, this is impossible. Therefore, 30Shine management has considered technology as the core competitive element. “Through a smartphone or computer, we can control each store, instantly assess efficiency, forecast sales, number of customers, performance of the day. We can easily control a hair shop in Thailand thanks to technology," Hung added. The demand for men's haircuts at the end of the year increased so the system was always overloaded, requiring 30Shine to be upgraded in terms of technology. But if you continue to use a physical server system, it will be costly, not to mention time-consuming and not flexible enough to deploy. “The 30Shine management board made a bold decision to immediately apply cloud computing of Amazon Web Services - an advanced and relatively new …

IT college student praised by American tech giant for discovering vulnerabilities

"Hello everyone, my name is Quynh. I am a senior at the Academy of Cryptography Techniques, Hanoi, and a security researcher, a job focusing on vulnerabilities in the Java platform." That was how Quynh introduced herself at a security webinar last October. Over the past five years, the 23-year-old had to repeat this introduction during many lectures since few thought a girl in her early twenties could detect as many as four vulnerabilities with high severity in less than a year, transforming her into a favorite speaker at various information security events. The four Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE), the general term for security vulnerabilities, Quynh has found are CVE-2020-14625, CVE-2020-14825, CVE-2020-2883, and CVE-2020-2798. Of these, three vulnerabilities rated 9.8 out of 10 by experts on Oracle WebLogic Server in terms of severity. The other rated 7.2. Oracle's WebLogic Server application is used by tens of thousands of companies around the world, bringing billions of dollars in revenue to the U.S. technology giant. If not detected early, the vulnerabilities above could be exploited by hackers and might cause unpredictable consequences. With Oracle publishing a list of vulnerabilities and patches for its products every quarter, the name of the senior college student popped up thrice last year. Getting hooked by chance To be able to detect her very first CVE in two weeks, it took Quynh four years of schooling and two months of research. But she admitted she did not enter this industry because of her passion or with a specific goal, but simply found it "cool." "I decided to study IT since I have always had a curious mind and the program has a study abroad option," she recalled. Surprisingly, the first-year college student who loves literature and knows how to play the piano had completed her study program with good results and earned a study slot abroad. But when she achieved her initial goal, Quynh realized she really loved …

Extensive reforms behind the border

When the Covid-19 pandemic, which started in Wuhan in China a year ago, broke out, even the most optimistic person could not imagine that the Vietnamese economy would stand firm. With the world's most open economy (import and export equal to 200% of GDP), heavily dependent on the international market, the Vietnamese economy was projected to be risky and vulnerable. However, toward the end of the year, the economy's import and export activities became more vibrant and reached numbers that satisfied the most skeptical economic analysts. “I am very happy to know that in difficult conditions in 2020, we have 31 export items worth over $1 billion, with nine items with export revenues of over $5 billion and six items with over $10 billion," Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the total import and export turnover in 2020 reached nearly $544 billion, up 5.1% year on year; and trade surplus hit a record of $19.1 billion, much higher than $10.9 billion of the previous year. Trade surplus in 2020 is higher than that of 2019 ($10.9 billion) and 2018 ($6.8 billion), nine times higher than 2017 ($2.1 billion) and nearly 11 times higher than 2016 ($1.8 billion). Vietnam had trade surplus mainly with developed countries, which have strict quality requirements for imported goods such as the US (trade surplus of nearly $62.7 billion) and the EU (nearly $20.3 billion). Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized that Vietnam has become the 22nd largest export economy in the world, with the export growth rate 4 times higher than the world average. According to the Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh, Vietnam has participated in negotiation and signed 15 Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), becoming an economy with large openness and having trade relations with over 230 markets in the world. He said that the EU- Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) has an economic scale of up to 30% of global GDP, and …
