Unilever: Sustainability and business growth are not conflicting

February 1, 2023 by vir.com.vn

That is the vision Unilever is pursuing: Proving that a sustainable business model drives superior performance. “We do not believe that there is a trade-off. Sometimes there are short-term trade-offs where you incur a cost as an investment. But over the long term, there are many reasons sustainable business results in a stronger, more durable business,” said Alan Jope, Unilever CEO, on his visit to Vietnam. In Vietnam, Unilever’s business shows good alignment on this issue. Its purposeful brands are impressively growing, aiming at creating a positive impact on people, the environment, and society without compromising product quality and value. This all has a positive impact on Vietnamese people. Unilever Vietnam’s Personal Care business leads its peers while improving hygiene standards. Take Lifebuoy, for example; it delivers handwashing education to 35 million people. P/S provides oral care education to 25 million children. Illustrative photo (Source: nongnghiep.vn) Hanoi (VNA) – The link between enterprises and farmers has helped form large raw material areas of stable and long-term development, according to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Quoc Tri. Tri said businesses’ thinking towards sustainable and responsible growth has resulted in such a link. In 2022, the agricultural sector reeled in over 54 billion USD from the export of agro-forestry-fishery products, affirming its supporting role and contribution to the country’s economic growth and food security. Notably, many regions across the country have developed small-scale agricultural production models that promote indigenous cultural values and bring high economic gains. January 20, 2023 by vir.com.vn

Dr. Patrick Lau, deputy executive director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council What were you doing in the Asian Financial Forum (AFF) 2023 to promote sustainable and green initiatives? In 2021, the Hong Kong government announced Hong Kong's Climate Action Plan 2050, setting out the vision of "Zero-carbon Emissions - Liveable City - Sustainable Development", and outlining the strategies and targets for combating climate change and achieving carbon neutrality. This target is 10 years earlier than Mainland China, and all relevant stakeholders, including us as the statutory body, are also making concrete efforts to be more sustainable and efficient ourselves. We have a role to promote sustainability to the rest of the business community, in particular small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Hong Kong. We are doing a lot of promotion of the sustainability ESG concept to the SMEs sector, even though it is not a walk in the park. Currently, only tech-related … [Read more...] about Hong Kong pioneers a sustainable future for an ‘Asian century’

The pride of agricultural backbone

January 22, 2023 by vir.com.vn

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan Last year, Vietnam’s agricultural industry spectacularly overcame hurdles with impressive growth. The profound meaning behind those impressive numbers is the pride in contributing to ensuring the social security of nearly 10 million farmers and the country’s food security. In 2022, the whole country faces challenges globally, such as inflation and obstacles in the production and export of agricultural products in the context the prices of domestic inputs are escalating. In addition, many key export markets are still tightening spending due to inflation. However, Vietnam’s agriculture has cemented its position as the backbone of the economy with an export turnover of $53 billion, higher by $3 billion than the initial target assigned by the government. The sector contributed partly to the economy’s general growth and to ensure social security, especially food security.
