China willing to strengthen ties with ASEAN: Chinese FM

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi (Photo: Xinhua/VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – China is ready to work with ASEAN to build an even closer community with a shared future, and open up another three decades of even greater cooperation, said Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi at a press conference on the nation’s foreign policy and external relations. At the event, held via video link on the margins of the Fourth Session of the 13th National People's Congress, Wang stated China and ASEAN countries need to remove distractions and press ahead with consultations for a code of conduct (COC) in the East Sea (South China Sea), and work toward the early conclusion of a set of regional rules that are more substantive and effective, consistent with international law and serve the needs of all parties. He added the sides should continue the full and effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the waters (DOC) in order to build consensus, enhance mutual trust, advance cooperation, and maintain overall stability in the sea. The official also said China will scale up support to the bloc’s pandemic response, noting that it is now providing COVID-19 vaccines for ASEAN countries and helping Indonesia to become a hub of vaccine production in Southeast Asia. Concerning the Myanmar issue, Wang underscored on the basis of respect for Myanmar's sovereignty and the will of its people, China stands ready to play a constructive role in easing the tension in the country./. Indonesia speaks highly of Vietnam’s digital economy

Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan has spoken highly of Vietnam’s digital economy which grew by 16 percent in 2020. Addressing an online workshop held by Indonesia’s e-commerce company Bukalapak and Microsoft on March 8, Minister Luhut highlighted the growth of his country’s digital economy of double digits along with ASEAN countries such as Malaysia and Singapore. Even though Indonesia is still behind Vietnam, he said. According to the Minister, the digital economy is strongly developing amidst the COVID-19 pandemic . According to him, the digital economy in Southeast Asia grew 5 percent in 2020, with gross merchandise value of 105 billion USD. Minister Luhut said according to data from the Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2020, Indonesia is rank first in the world based on the value of the digital ecosystem. The value of Indonesia's digital ecosystem, amounting to USD 26.3 billion or equivalent to 376.09 trillion rupiah. Hanoi begins COVID-19 vaccination on March 9

The vaccination campaign in the capital runs from March 9 to March 18 across 30 districts. AstraZeneca is one of three vaccines recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and has been used across over 50 countries and territories globally. The vaccine will be given to people over the age of 18, with 2 shots, spaced 12 weeks apart. The municipal Department of Health has assigned the Hanoi Center for Disease Control to work out a detailed plan for COVID-19 vaccination to ensure the best possible safety. According to Chu Xuan Dung, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, and head of the municipal Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, underscored the high risk of the disease transmission among the community in the comming time, while calling on every citizen to properly implement an-pandemic measures. On March 9 morning, Vietnam posted zero new COVID-19 cases, leaving the national infection count unchanged at 2,524, including 1,586 domestically-transmitted cases, and 938 imported cases. One day earlier, the nation launched its COVID-19 vaccination drive, with around 377 medical workers in Ho Chi Minh City and northern Hai Duong province – the country’s current biggest pandemic hotspot being infected with AstraZeneca vaccines. The vaccination is underway at the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi, the HCM City Hospital for Tropical Diseases and two medical centres in Hai Duong. According to information from the National Expanded Programme on Immunization, vaccination activities at all four inoculation sites on the first day of inoculation stayed safe, with 100% of injected people reporting no post-injection reactions.
