Bangkok (VNA) - The Thai government has decided to waive personal income tax for foreign actors when working in Thailand in the next five years, in a fresh bid to attract foreign crews to the country. Deputy Government Spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek said on June 21 that the tax incentive is part of the government’s efforts to develop the country’s soft power. Thailand earned an average of 3.5 billion THB a year from foreign film crews from 2017 to 2021, with the revenue increasing to 5 billion THB last year. Incentives provided to foreign film crews include cash rebates of 15-20% of the expenses incurred in Thailand, with limits capped at 75 million THB, said Rachada adding that actors have been required to pay personal income tax while they were working in Thailand , despite the fact that they have to pay personal income taxes in their home countries as well. With the income tax exemption, Thailand expects to gain an average of 3.5 billion THB in revenue per annum … [Read more...] about Thailand to exempt income tax for foreign actors

Shipping containers are loaded onto an international freighter at the Bangkok Port.(Photo bangkokpost.com) Bangkok - The weaker baht is expected to boost the Thai economy and increase real GDP of the country by 0.4 percent, but not all manufacturers will reap the benefits, according to the Industry Ministry of Thailand. The ministry said that industries such as steel, medicine and oil, which depend greatly on the import of raw materials and have few exports, will bear the brunt of the baht depreciation. Manufacturers will experience varying outcomes as the value of the baht decreases, but overall the Thai economy will benefit, said Industry Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit. The baht fell to 34.46 against the US dollar on June 7, down from 33.38 baht on December 30 last year. Director-General of the Office of Industrial Economics (OIE) Thongchai Chawalitpichaet said if the value of the baht weakens by 5 percent, real GDP will grow by 0.4 percent.
