South Korea's arms sales jumped to more than $17 billion in 2022 from $7.25 billion the year before, according to its defence ministry, as Western countries scrambled to arm Ukraine and tensions rose in other hot spots such as North Korea and the South China Sea. The arms deal with Poland, a key NATO member, last year included hundreds of Chunmoo rocket launchers, K2 tanks, K9 self-propelled howitzers, and FA-50 fighter aircraft. The deal's value and the number of weapons involved made it stand out even among the world's biggest defence players. South Korean and Polish officials say their partnership will help them conquer the European arms market even beyond the Ukraine war, with Seoul providing high-quality weapons faster than other countries and Poland offering manufacturing capacity and a sales pipeline into Europe. In recent days some tour companies have posted the photos and said Fantasy Ha Long Bay hotel is set to open in 2024. Some photos also show a panoramic view of the UNESCO world heritage bay thanks to its glass facade. Photos of Fantasy Ha Long Bay shared on social media have been deemed fake. The photos quickly caught the public eye, and questions have been pouring in about its location and room tariffs. But on Thursday Pham Ngoc Thuy, director of the Quang Ninh Province Department of Tourism, said such a hotel would never be built in the core area of Ha Long Bay and warned tourists against being scammed. Bui Thanh Tu, marketing director of tour service provider Best Price, said some people could post these photos to trick tourists into booking rooms. Several countries, including Australia, India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, the Maldives, and the Philippines, joined in rescue efforts for 39 missing crew members after the Chinese distant-water fishing vessel "Lupeng Yuanyu 028" capsized early last Tuesday, state-run CCTV reported. The vessel is owned by Penglai Jinglu Fishery Co Ltd based in Shandong province. The company has yet to release a statement on the incident. Of the 39 people that were originally on board - 17 Chinese crew members, 17 Indonesians and five from the Philippines - it was not immediately clear which crew members were found. Sri Lankan divers found and recovered the remains in the cabin of the ship, CCTV reported according to the Chinese Ministry of Transport.
