Photo courtesy of the firm HÀ NỘI — Hòa Phát Group had the highest revenue and profit among five Vietnamese firms listed in the Top 2,000 largest companies in the world in 2022 (Global 2000) announced by Forbes. It is also the only Vietnamese production firm in the list. Forbes collected the latest financial data as of April 22, 2022 to rank businesses globally according to four criteria including revenue, net profit, total assets and market capitalisation. The other Vietnamese firms included in the list are all banks: Vietcombank, Vietinbank, BIDV and Techcombank. In 2021, Hòa Phát recorded VNĐ150.8 trillion (US$6.5 billion) in revenue and reached a net profit of VNĐ34.5 trillion for the first time, up 65 per cent and 156 per cent respectively compared to 2020. This information was reported by the Department of Industry under the Ministry of Industry and Trade. In detail, electronic firms in Vietnam, including domestic and foreign-invested firms, now have been able to manufacture almost all electronic products, such as air conditioners, televisions, washing machines, telephones, printers, so on. Local electronic products have been diverse in types, colors, and appearance, and displayed good quality, meeting most of the local people’s demands. Notably, some of these products have been exported to many countries in the world. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam is the 12th largest electronic exporter worldwide and the third in the ASEAN in 2020. However, 95 percent of the turnover of electronic products is in the hands of foreign-invested enterprises. The article by Sazali Abdul Aziz reported that after two days of track and field competitions at the SEA Games 31 in Hanoi, Vietnam topped the medal table. For nearly two decades following Thailand, Vietnam finally usurped their rivals to emerge as the top nation in athletics in the 2017 Games in Malaysia. They followed it up with another table-topping show two years later in the Philippines, and are looking to make it three in a row. US company pours 7 billion USD into Indonesia
Jakarta (VNA) - Air Products & Chemicals - a multinational industrial gas and chemicals manufacturer headquartered in the US, has carried out the first phase of its investment in projects worth 7 billion USD in Indonesia over the past two years. According to Bahil Lahadalia, Minister of Investment and head of the Investment Coordinating Board of Indonesia (BKPM), this figure accounts for nearly half of the 15 billion USD investment commitment of the company in Indonesia. The company has poured money in dimethyl ether and methanol production projects in the Balongan district of West Java province. Shanghai aims to defeat Covid over next week as Beijing hunkers down
Easing weeks of punishing restrictions in the commercial hub would bring relief to China's battered economy, although there is growing concern that Beijing may yet take a similar course of action if it fails to get a nascent outbreak under control. Shanghai's deputy mayor, Wu Qing, said the city of 25 million aims to eliminate Covid outside of quarantined zones within the next week or so.
