Dong Nai (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on January 19 visited and inspected the combat readiness at the Army Officer Training College 2 (Nguyen Hue University) in the southern province of Dong Nai. On the occasion, the Government leader attended a ceremony to inaugurate a military culture campus and the statue of Emperor Quang Trung – Nguyen Hue. Speaking at the working session with representatives of the college, PM Phuc praised the educational institution for its achievements made through periods, saying that the school has trained hundreds of officers for the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA). The quality of training and the prestige of the school have been remarkably improved, he added. Art of command in 1979 northern border defence war
Hanoi, (VNA) – The northern border defence war in 1979 has demonstrated Vietnam’s strength and intelligence in critical situations. The art of command during that war is analysed in an article by Associate Professor and Doctor Ho Khang, former deputy director of the Vietnam Military History Institute. In early 1979, when the Vietnam People’s Army toppled the reactionary Pol Pot regime in Cambodia and helped the Cambodian people escape from genocide, the Chinese Government joined some Western countries in launching propaganda campaigns distorting the presence of the Vietnamese voluntary troops in Cambodia, with the aim of sabotaging Vietnam’s revolution and imposing its interest on the Indochina peninsula. Russian Major General recalls Vietnam’s war to defence northern border
Moscow (VNA) – It is the courage and resolve of soldiers of the Vietnam People’s Army that contributed to the victory of the northern border defence war in Vietnam 40 years ago (February 17), said Russian Major General Viktor Demyanenko. Demyanenko was among 21 officers of the former Soviet Union (present-day Russia) sent to Vietnam to help the country during the struggle to defence its northern border in 1979. The 90-year-old Major General told a Vietnam News Agency’s correspondent that he is proud to be one of the three people who advised then Party General Secretary Le Duan to withdraw a major army corp from the southwestern border to assist the northern border. The corp, together with the BM-21 rocket artillery unit, created a shield protecting Hanoi capital city, he recalled.
