Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand is hoping for a recovery in shrimp exports which are forecast to grow 20 percent in 2020 thanks to increased production. Somsak Paneetatyasai, President of the Thai Shrimp Association, said higher production efficiency and efforts to tackle shrimp diseases should lead to an output of 350,000-400,000 tonnes in 2020, up from 290,000 tonnes this year. Next year's shrimp exports are forecast to grow to 192,000 tonnes from 160,000 tonnes in 2019, which would be a 5-percent dip from 2018. Somsak said the value of exports is also likely to grow by 20 percent next year from 50-55 billion THB (1.65 – 1.82 billion USD) in 2019. The figure this year fell 11 percent from 2018 due to continued baht appreciation and shrimp diseases. Thuy An puts in confident display at swimsuit segment of Miss Intercontinental
Thuy An, Vietnam’s representative at Miss Intercontinental 2019, has taken part in the swimsuit segment of the ongoing global beauty pageant in Egypt. Thuy An is a 22-year-old from Kien Giang province and is currently a student at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. She stands at 1.68 metres tall with measurements of 83-65-89. Thuy An has previous experience competing in beauty contests, most notably having previously been awarded the second runner-up title during the 2018 version of Miss Vietnam. The Miss Intercontinental competition is one of the world’s most prestigious beauty pageants, alongside Miss World, Miss Universe, and Miss International. The San Diu ethnic minority people, believed to have migrated from Guangdong, China in 1600, are now living in villages in Vietnam’s northern midlands and mountainous areas. The San Diu are also known as San Deo, Trai, Trai Dat and Man Quan Coc. San Diu women in their traditional clothes. Forum urges leather-footwear sector’s actions to grasp chances
This was the focus of the Supporting Industry Forum 2019, held in Ho Chi Minh City on December 13. Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai said leather-footwear is one of the key exporting industries of Vietnam. With an annual export growth rate of over 10 percent, the industry earned the country approximated 20 billion USD in 2018 and over 10 billion USD in the first half of 2019. The Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association (Lefaso) forecast this year’s leather-footwear exports at some 21.5 billion USD, up 10 percent from 2018. Vietnamese footwear has been shipped to more than 100 countries, including 50 with imports worth over 1 million USD from Vietnam.
