Healthy lifestyle associated with low risk of sudden cardiac death in women: study
Adhering to a healthy lifestyle, including not smoking, exercising regularly, having a low body weight and eating a healthy diet, appears to lower the risk of sudden cardiac death (SCD) in women, according to a study to be published Wednesday in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Viet Nam strives for gender equality and empowerment of women
Viet Nam has spared no efforts to achieve the goal of gender equality and empowerment of women by implementing Government policies, national strategies and the Law on Gender Equality adopted recently by the National Assembly. Nguyen Tat Thanh, Deputy Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the United Nations, made the statement at the Informal Thematic Debate of the General Assembly on the Promotion of Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women in New York on Mar. 7. Vietnamese women are now actively participating in decision-making in all major spheres and at all levels, with the number of women taking part in decision-making bodies increasing constantly, he said. Vietnam women with massive tumors recover after surgeries
Two Vietnamese women who had their massive tumors removed in high-profile surgeries last week are doing well, the news website of Vietnam Media Corp. quoted local doctors as saying Monday. Dr. Tran Quyet Tien, vice director of Ho Chi Minh City-based Cho Ray Hospital, said Kieu Thi My Dung, 22, and Thach Thi Sa Ly, 36, have regained consciousness and their conditions are improving, VTC News reported. Dung, from the Central Highlands province Lam Dong, had a tumor weighing more than 2 kilograms removed from her face last Friday after a seven-hour surgery conducted by Dr. McKay McKinnon, a renowned Chicago-based plastic surgeon, and Vietnamese doctors. McKinnon also performed a six-hour surgery on Ly, from the Mekong Detla province of Soc Trang, last Saturday to remove part of thousands of bubble-like lumps that densely covered her body and face.
