Wolves and Palace ease into FA Cup quarter-finalsThe Saigon Times Daily Wolverhampton Wanderers' Ivan Cavaleiro celebrates scoring their first goal at Ashton Gate Stadium, Bristol, Britain February 17, 2019 – PHOTO: REUTERS LONDON (REUTERS) - Wolverhampton Wanderers’ impressive season continued as they moved into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with Ivan Cavaleiro’s first-half goal sealing a 1-0 victory at Championship (second-tier) club Bristol City on Sunday. Portuguese Cavaleiro slotted home clinically in the 28th minute after great work by Matt Doherty and it was enough for Wolves to reach the last eight for the first time since 2003. After a mass exodus of Premier League clubs in the previous two rounds, Wolves continued a good weekend for the big boys which saw Manchester City, Brighton & Hove Albion, Watford and Crystal Palace all send lower-league opposition packing. Palace were far too good on Sunday for third-tier Doncaster Rovers, with … [Read more...] about Wolves and Palace ease into FA Cup quarter-finals

Palace won 2-0 away to third-tier Doncaster Rovers, the lowest league club still in the competition, while Wolves beat Championship side Bristol City 1-0. The day’s other fifth-round tie saw Swansea beat 10-man Brentford 4-1 in an all second-tier clash. Sunday’s winners now join top-flight Manchester City, Brighton and Watford in the last eight, with FA Cup-holders Chelsea playing Manchester United shortly before Monday’s draw in a repeat of last season’s final. United's Sanchez returns to haunt Arsenal in Cup winThe Saigon Times Daily Manchester United's Alexis Sanchez celebrates scoring their first goal at Emirates Stadium, London, Britain January 25, 2019 – PHOTO: REUTERS LONDON (REUTERS) - Chilean forward Alex Sanchez returned to haunt his old club with the opening goal in Manchester United’s 3-1 victory at Arsenal in a heavyweight FA Cup fourth-round clash on Friday. In his first appearance back at the Emirates Stadium since swapping north London for Old Trafford a year ago, Sanchez silenced the inevitable boos to help continue Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s remarkable start as United’s interim manager. Sanchez and Jesse Lingard scored within two minutes of each other in the first half but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang replied just before halftime to set up an engrossing second half. Arsenal suffered injury blows, with defenders Sokratis and Laurent Koscielny both being forced off, although they pushed hard for an … [Read more...] about United’s Sanchez returns to haunt Arsenal in Cup win
Viet Nam News by Paul Kennedy May 14 1988 started out as a really good day. The sun was shining, I was 15-years-old and on my way to Wembley Stadium to watch Liverpool win the FA Cup. The result was a no brainer. Liverpool, the crème de la crème of English football versus Wimbledon. The Crazy Gang. Liverpool was a team packed with talent. Barnes, Beardsley, Houghton and Hansen. Wimbledon was a team packed with thugs, Vinnie Jones, Andy Thorn, Dennis Wise and some other players no one had ever heard of. Liverpool would win. They had to win, they were the better team. They could not possible lose. They lost. By one goal to nil. My dream day turned into a nightmare. The train journey back north was solemn to say the least. But you know what? Thirty plus years later, this final will still be remembered as one of the greatest in FA Cup history. Not because of the game itself, that was awful, but because it reminded the world of the beauty of the FA Cup. Fast forward to … [Read more...] about Klopp flops in the FA Cup but does it really matter?
Fourth-tier Newport County beat Premier League high-flyers Leicester City 2-1 to record a memorable upset win in the third round of the English FA Cup on Sunday (Jan 6). Newport County's Irish striker Padraig Amond (centre) celebrates after scoring their second goal from the penalty spot against Leicester City during the English FA Cup third round football match. (Geoff CADDICK/AFP) It had seemed that visitors Leicester, seventh in the Premier League and top-flight champions in 2016, would leave Rodney Parade with a draw when Rachid Ghezzal's shot eight minutes from time cancelled out Jamille Matt's 10th-minute header. But, with five minutes left, Newport were awarded a penalty after Leicester's Marc Albrighton inexplicably raised his arm to block a cross into the box and Padraig Amond made no mistake from the spot to spark delirious scenes among the Welsh club's supporters. "It's a little bit surreal at the moment," Matt told the BBC after Newport's first FA Cup win against … [Read more...] about Fourth tier Newport stun Premier League Leicester 2 1 in FA Cup
