In recent talks with the US, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) underlined the need to boost exports of non-traditional products in the agriculture, forestry and fisheries industries as part of the diversification of the national economy. The agriculture, forestry and fishing sector comprises establishments primarily engaged in growing crops, raising animals, harvesting timber as well as fish and other animals from a farm, ranch, or their natural habitats, said Minister Cao Duc Phat of MARD. The establishments in this sector in Vietnam are largely small family farms, ranches, dairies, greenhouses, nurseries, orchards, or hatcheries, said Minister Phat, with a spattering of larger businesses.
