March 28, 2023 by tuoitrenews.vn

Ian Paynton advises foreigners to be cheerful when visiting Vietnam, according to the The Insider website. Vietnam is emerging as one of Southeast Asia’s most popular tourist destinations for international travelers and experts. More than 100,000 foreign experts are living and working in Vietnam. Ian Paynton, a British native, resides in Hanoi. He first traveled to Vietnam in 2007, and three years later, he decided to leave London for the Southeast Asian country for resettlement. Paynton has told The Insider seven dos and don’ts of a Vietnam visit for foreign tourists. Here are seven travel tips: Do not go around town while wearing swimsuits According to Paynton, the beauty of Vietnam lies in elegance, so foreign visitors should not wear scanty swimwear while traveling to beaches, rivers or waterfalls. This is considered a taboo at temples and pagodas. In 2016, a foreign visitor was forced to leave a place of worship as the traveler wore shorts and a bra-styled shirt. … [Read more...] about Foreigner shares dos and don’ts of travel etiquette in Vietnam

March 27, 2023 by e.vnexpress.net

It is now nearly impossible to buy a new apartment at the VND 2 billion mark. According to a report in 2022 from Rever, a Southeast Asia technology firm in real estate brokerage, for VND1.5-1.8 billion, one can buy a 30-55 square meter apartment built 6-10 years ago in Thu Duc City, on the secondary market. The average income of workers in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) this year is about VND148 million a year, according to property listing platform Batdongsan.com.vn. By that calculation, it will take up to 24 years to save, with no spending on anything, just to buy an apartment. The type of apartment used in this survey costs VND3.5 billion per unit. The data also shows that Vietnam ranks first in Southeast Asia in terms of the gap between house prices and average worker incomes. From 2018 to 2021, the ratio of the difference between real estate prices and the average income of Vietnamese has continuously increased, surpassing even Singapore. March 28, 2023 by e.vnexpress.net

In a notice sent to the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange on Monday, NovaGroup said it would sell 38 million shares between March 30 and April 28 to balance its investment portfolio and restructure debts. The announcement comes amid a sharp rise in the price of NovaGroup shares thanks to the deferral of its bond redemption, approval for capital hike and the nomination of two new directors. Novaland shares closed Monday at the ceiling price of VND12,700 ($0.54) and there were no sellers, a fourth straight day of gains. At this price, the transaction is expected to fetch Nova nearly VND500 billion ($21.3 million). But it will reduce NovaGroup’s stake to 27.43%. Nhon's family, including himself, his wife, two children and two related companies, will see their holdings fall to 50.72%. Novaland's charter makes 51% the controlling stake. NovaGroup, formerly known as Thanh Nhon Trading Co., Ltd., was founded by Nhon in 1992. It underwent several rounds of restructuring. 2023 set to be favourable for Vietnamese rice enterprises

March 28, 2023 by dtinews.vn

The Vietnamese rice industry is set to benefit from the high demand and prices this year, with lower input costs leading to expanded profit margins for rice businesses. A rice field in Vi Thuy district in the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang. Vietnam will benefit from the upward trend in rice prices due to limited supply. (Photo: VNA) According to an expert from Vietnam Securities Company Limited Bank for Foreign Trade (VCBS), the country's rice industry enjoys favourable factors, such as weather and geographical advantage. The prolonged drought in China has caused a decrease in the country's output for the 2021-2022 crop, leading to an anticipated six million tonne increase in rice imports for the 2022-23 crop. Meanwhile, inventories in the Philippines have declined due to typhoons and high fertiliser costs, leading to increased rice imports. The cultivated area in India has also dropped due to drought, making the decrease in supply - the main factor for … [Read more...] about 2023 set to be favourable for Vietnamese rice enterprises

Visa upgrade at heart of fresh approach to tourism

March 27, 2023 by vir.com.vn

Visas, service quality, and technology were all part of discussions on a better-performing tourism sector Photo: Cuong Minh May’s National Assembly session is likely to help push ahead a revamp of the country’s rules on entry and exit for foreign visitors, after the Ministry of Public Security crafts amendments to the current law. The development will be an important basis for the issuance of new regulations related to the visa policy, removing difficulties for the tourism industry, and creating conditions to attract more international visitors this year, according to most observers. Dang Tuan Viet, deputy director of the Ministry of Public Secrutity’s (MoPS) Vietnam Immigration Department, said that the proposal emphasised two major areas related to unilateral visa exemption and electronic visa policy. The MoPS also proposes to expand the number of countries that can issue e-visas from 80 countries to the maximum. Tea export value to China skyrockets

March 27, 2023 by en.vietnamplus.vn

Illustrative image (Photo: vov.vn) Hanoi (VNA) - The export value of Vietnamese tea to China in the first two months of this year quadrupled from the same period last year, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs . China imported 426 tonnes of tea from Vietnam in the two months, representing rises of 121% in volume and 411.2% in value. The average tea export price in February alone surged by over 10% to more than 1,641 USD per tonne. China’s reopening of its border after the COVID-19 pandemic is the main factor behind the strong growth of tea exports to this huge market, reported the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Tea exports to Pakistan also enjoyed an upward trend, reaching 5,300 tonnes worth 9.4 million USD, up 5.8% in volume year on year. Although Taiwan (China) is Vietnam’s second largest tea consumer, tea exports to this market declined slightly over the two-month period. Statistics show Vietnam shipped 1,500 tonnes worth 2.4 million USD to … [Read more...] about Tea export value to China skyrockets

Powerful plan mooted for tourism

March 27, 2023 by vir.com.vn

Photo: Chi Cuong At VIR’s roundtable discussion on seeking a boost for inbound tourism last week, editor-in-chief Le Trong Minh opened the roundtable with a fact-based observation, and noted that the country has yet to unlock the full potential of its tourism industry. “While the tourism sector contributes a significant 9.2 per cent of the country’s total GDP, equivalent to $32.8 billion, this number remains low compared to the global average,” he said. In 2023, the tourism sector aims to welcome eight million international visitors. While this is a modest number compared to the level achieved in 2019 of 19 million visitors, it is a challenging target as the market is undergoing many changes and new trends post-pandemic. Explaining this, Hoang Nhan Chinh, secretariat director of the Vietnam Tourism Advisory Board assessed that group tours are seeing a decline, and tourists known as frequent independent travellers are on the rise. “An essential step is to understand the … [Read more...] about Powerful plan mooted for tourism

Tuna exporters aiming for smaller markets

March 27, 2023 by en.vietnamplus.vn

Illustrative image (Photo: VNA) HCM City (VNA) – Domestic tuna exporters are targeting promising small markets to get out of current difficulties amid economic fluctuations in big importing countries. Data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs showed tuna export revenue dropped 13% in February with no signs of improvement in March. Total tuna export value in the first three months of this year is estimated at 160 million USD. According to the Vietnam Seafood Producers and Exporters (VASEP), the price of Vietnamese tuna is higher than that of other suppliers in major markets such as European countries and the US, but the increasing prices of material tuna are slowing down the flow of orders from importers, affecting Vietnam’s tuna exports to these markets. Nguyen Ha, an expert from VASEP, forecast that Vietnam will continue to see a sharp drop in tuna export in the coming months.
