Four athletes win five of the total six gold medals in the dancesport competition at SEA Games 31. Far exceeding expectations of three gold medals, the Vietnam dancesport team won five out of the six gold medals at the biggest sports event in the Southeast Asia region. At the competition on May 15 at the Long Bien Gymnasium in Hanoi, the Vietnamese dancers vied in the categories of Samba, Cha cha cha, Rumba, Paso doble, Jive, and five Latin dances. Hanoian dance couple Nguyen Trung Kien and Pham Hong Anh won the Samba dance event. They also competed in Cha Cha Cha and Rumba events and with high scores, the dancers won gold medals in Rumba. In the final of men’s 5,000m, military athlete Nguyen Van Lai finished first in 16 minutes, 34 seconds and 12, securing a gold medal. Other gold medalists of Vietnam’s track and field team were Pham Thi Diem (women’s high jump with an achievement of 1.78m), Nguyen Tien Trong (men’slong jump – 7.80m), Nguyen Thi Huyen (women’s 400m – 52 seconds and 83).
