Whirlwinds, hailstones cause 13 deaths in Ha Long (22-11-2006) QUANG NINH — Thirteen people died and four others went missing after whirlwinds and hailstones battered Ha Long City in the northern province of Quang Ninh yesterday, according to the Flood, Storm Control and Research and Rescue Committee. Twenty-one city dwellers reported storm-related injuries. The storm also caused severe property damage, sinking 17 vessels and barges and destroying 150 stalls at the 2006 Ha Long Trade Fair. The committee also reported that trees had collapsed, causing widespread traffic jams. Border soldiers and teams from Military Zone 3 and the Viet Nam Marine Department are co-ordinating with provincial authorities from the People's Committee in search, rescue and recovery efforts.
