Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Le Quoc Anh said the province has investigated and punished all fishing vessels that were arrested abroad and violated IUU. All information have also been publicised on the mass media. The locality also launched crackdowns on violating vessels and those lacking the global positioning system (GPS), he said. According to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the total number of the fishing vessels with a length of 15m or more that are required to install GPS tracking devices is 3,691. New national-standard schools in Hanoi accredited
The number of national-standard schools in Hanoi has increased to 1,620, or 72.3% of all the schools in the city. Hanoi aims to have more than 170 new national-standard schools this year, an increase of 22% from the previous year, according to the municipal Department of Education and Training. Project proves women’s role in increasing community’s resilience to natural disasters
The 66,752 Euro (72,323 USD) project, sponsored by UP Transfer - Potsdam University of Germany, was implemented between 2021 and 2023. Its main components include building a mangrove nursery managed by the community and planting Sonneratia caseolaris (commonly known as mangrove apple) in the lagoon area of Hai Duong commune, Hue city. The project coordinated with the Women's Unions of communes near Tam Giang lagoon to organize communications activities on ecosystem-based natural disaster risk reduction and contests for ecosystem-based livelihoods adaptation to climate change and evaluate project effectiveness. Vietnam emphasizes global multilateral approaches to solving climate change issues
Vietnam’s engagement in U.N. resolution that urges the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to outline nations' legal obligations related to curbing climate change disasters and their impacts on vulnerable communities proves the country’s point of view, the ambassador said in a recent interview to the Vietnam News Agency right after the resolution was adopted on March 29. The resolution, co-sponsored by 132 countries, calls on the ICJ to lay out nations' obligations for protecting Earth's climate, and the legal consequences they face if they don't. Hanoi students get poisoned after having chicken infected with bacteria
The Hanoi’s Department of Health announced Thursday that 72 students at Kim Giang Elementary School suffered food poisoning after a field trip on Tuesday, as the chicken meat they had for lunch was infected with a bacterium called Staphylococcus aureus. On Tuesday morning, the school in Thanh Xuan District organized a field trip for 915 first and second graders to Canh Buom Xanh Park in Gia Lam District. For lunch, the school had the canteen prepare food, including fried rice, fried chicken, fries, sour soup and cookies, and send them along to the park. The children had lunch at 11 a.m. and during the trip, they also had their own snacks and drinks prepared by their families aside from drinking bottled water provided by the park. Fishing ship seized for illegally carrying 100,000 liters of diesel oil off southern Vietnam
A fishing vessel has been captured for illegally transporting some 100,000 liters of diesel oil in the waters off Vietnam's southwestern region. Vietnam’s maritime police said on Wednesday afternoon that they stopped fishing vessel TG 92008 TS for an inspection after detecting suspicious signs. T.V.T., a 47-year-old native of An Minh District in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang, was identified as the captain of the ship. T. admitted that the vessel was carrying nearly 100,000 liters of diesel oil with no invoices and legal documents proving its origin. After sealing the smuggled goods, the maritime police directed the ship to a port in Nam Can District in Ca Mau Province for further investigation. The maritime police in early March discovered and seized a vessel while it was transporting about 60,000 liters of diesel oil of unclear origin in the offshore area of the southwestern region of Vietnam.
