TV stations now have stringent limits on how long they can air commercials in a day. Except on shopping channels, advertisements should not exceed 10% of broadcast time. For pay TV channels the limit is 5%. Feature films cannot be interrupted more than twice for commercials, each not exceeding five minutes. Entertainment programs cannot be interrupted more than four times. News, live programs on special political events and celebrations of major national holidays cannot carry ads. But the ministry wants to loosen these regulations, and the amendments to the Law on Advertising are being finalized by the Ministry of Justice and are expected to be submitted to the Government in October this year and the National Assembly next year. (Photo: Google) Hanoi (VNA) - The world’s most popular search engine Google paid tribute to Suong Nguyet Anh , the first female editor of the first women’s newspaper in Vietnam by posting a drawing of her on its homepage on February 1. On this day in 1918, the first publication of “Nu Gioi Chung” (Women's Bell) newspaper, where Nguyet Anh was editor in chief, was published. The drawing of Nguyet Anh on Google Doodle was illustrated by Hanoi-based guest artist Camelia Pham. In honour of one of her most popular poems based around apricot blossoms, the Doodle artwork incorporates apricot blossoms and an apricot colour palette. Nguyet Anh was born on March 8, 1864, in An Binh Dong village of southern Ben Tre province. Long Tong festival held in Bac Kan province
The annual festival is held as a religious ritual dedicated to the god of agriculture to win his blessing for verdant crops and prosperity for villagers throughout the year. It consists of an offering ritual, a ploughing ceremony and folk games. Vietnamese athletes to receive 1 mln USD for Paris Olympic gold
The information was revealed at a ceremony in Hanoi on February 1 announcing the exchange of training program for Vietnamese athletes between the Vietnam Olympic Committee (VOC) and the International Sports Strategy Foundation (ISF), and signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the VOC and Asong Invest Sponsorship Program for Vietnamese medalists at Olympics 2024. Dang Ha Viet, General Director of the General Sports Administration of Vietnam under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, affirmed the ISF’s support will create a “golden” chance for Vietnam to elevate its rankings in the regional, continental and world arenas. Hip-hop concert organizer fined for steamy performances
The live concert, called KOSMIK, took place in November last year in HCMC with 5,000 fans. The authorities said the concert "used inappropriate outfits, words, sounds, images, movements, means of expression and performances that go against the fine customs and traditions of Vietnam," which violated government regulations. Four Vietnamese were awarded the New Zealand ASEAN Scholar Awards by New Zealand Prime Minister John Key on Monday. The four were among the 40 individuals from 10 member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to be presented with the prestigious prizes in a ceremony to mark 40 years of diplomatic relations between New Zealand and the bloc. ASEAN is a ten-member organization which includes Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam. Maritime economy to be boosted in North-central and Central coastal region
