Vietnam has greatly improved its living standards as it jumped 39 places to become the 62nd-best country worldwide for quality of life in 2021, according to a report by CEOWORLD . The Southeast Asian nation earned 78.49 points, ranking 62nd out of 165 countries and territories, registering a sharp improvement from its 101st position among 171 countries in 2020. It ranked seventh in the region, while Singapore took the lead with 87.64 points, followed by Thailand, the Philippines, and Malaysia. Singapore also held the 19th position in the global rankings. Currently, Vietnamese ships transport freight within the country’s waters only, without a strong capacity for international routes. The VMA has proposed policies to develop Vietnam’s international shipping fleet and increase its market share in the next five years, involving combined incentives related to VAT, import tax, personal income tax (PIT), and concessional loans. To reduce the financial burden for shipping owners, it is necessary to remove the application of 10 per cent VAT according to current regulations for imported freight ships until the end of 2026, the VMA suggested in a document sent to the MoT. Vietnam’s aviation authorities have imposed a nine-month ban on a Vietnamese man after he failed to pay a fine for smoking on a domestic flight. The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) said on Thursday that 72-year-old Le Quoc T., hailing from northern Ha Nam Province, has been banned from domestic and international flights for nine months. T. smoked on flight VJ 464, operated by low-cost carrier Vietjet Air, on which he occupied the 28D seat, from southern Can Tho City to Hanoi on June 5.
