The energy used by high-rise buildings in Việt Nam accounts for around 35-40 per cent of the country’s total energy consumption. A survey by real estate service firm Cushman & Wakefield (CWK) showed that around 40 per cent of gas emissions came from real estate. According to the Việt Nam Green Building Council, there are about 200 green buildings across the country. At the United Nations Climate Change Conference in 2021 (COP26), Việt Nam committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. To achieve the environmental goals, Việt Nam needs to develop more energy-saving buildings that are high quality to reduce the negative impact on the … [Read more...] about Energy-efficient buildings on the rise in Việt Nam
Construction contractors hit hard by surging costs
The owner of a construction company said: "The rising costs have caused severe impacts on my company. We have put two projects on hold and are waiting for prices to go down." Huynh’s company in the neighboring province of Binh Duong is likely to report losses on the construction of a road project it began earlier this year. It cannot back away from the project as the work is 75 percent completed. "We use a lot of diesel each day, and so the rising fuel costs have eaten away all of our profits," Huynh said. The rising costs of raw materials amid surging global inflation is posing problems for construction companies who struggle to renegotiate their contracts as losses loom. Cement prices in Vietnam have gone up three times this year by around 28 percent to VND1.2 million ($51.62) a ton. In the latest increase, 15 major cement producers all hiked prices by up to VND80,000 per ton. Steel prices have been falling due to declining demand in China, but others such as sand, … [Read more...] about Construction contractors hit hard by surging costs

BAEMIN extends green journey in Vietnam
Jinwoo Song, CEO of BAEMIN Vietnam As online food delivery platforms grow, one of the most pressing concerns is the volume of plastic waste generated throughout its operations and how it is tackled. The effectiveness in which different countries are dealing with the plastic waste produced by online food delivery will be dependent on how well developed their recycling infrastructure is and the speed of online food delivery has grown. “While the recent discussion often revolves around the plastic waste only, I think it’s equally important to review other aspects of environmental challenges posed by the food technology industry that is food waste and the increase of carbon footprint”, shared Jinwoo. The pandemic has prompted the use of single-use, disposable food packaging as consumers believe single-use packaging was safer and more hygienic. Even though they have become more environmentally conscious, it’s unlikely that they will consider keeping leftover food for future meals … [Read more...] about BAEMIN extends green journey in Vietnam

Tran Hau Tuan, a collector and the event organizer, said 60 oil and gouache paintings are on display, 90 percent of them for the first time ever. Tuan has been collecting the works of many famous artists since the 1980s and has great passion for Phai’s. He said the exhibition had been scheduled for September 2020 to coincide with Phai’s birthday, but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. During the outbreak, during many nights he would just sit in his room and look at the paintings, he said. "When I looked at the paintings on the wall and the table - because many small paintings must be displayed on the table - I felt like I escaped reality and entered a different world. They give me the motivation to stay strong and overcome Covid." The works on display are based on familiar themes, including … [Read more...] about Works of Bui Xuan Phai shown to public for first time
