Japan will give post-COVID-19 support to over 100 overseas Japanese-invested projects, including more than 40 in Vietnam, but the Southeast Asian country needs to overcome certain challenges facing them, a Japanese trade official said. Nobuyuki Matsumoto, chief representative of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO)’s Ho Chi Minh City Office, released the information at a press briefing held recently at the twin launch of the upcoming METALEX Vietnam Exhibition and Supporting Industry Exhibition 2022 in October this year. Vietnam denies entry of nearly 300 passengers on concern over Covid-19
The denial is in line with regulations on prevention of Covid-19 which has caused 15 infections in the country. Vietnamese authorities have denied the entry of nearly 300 passengers whose time window between leaving China and entering Vietnam has been less than 14 days (the incubation period of the virus). Of the passengers, 218 came from Hong Kong on a flight by Cathay Pacific, the flag carrier of Hong Kong, 44 from Malaysia, 10 from Thailand, and four from Singapore. With the expansion of the Covid-19 pandemic, foreign embassies in Hanoi recommended expats avoid leaving Vietnam. As the Covid-19 pandemic is expanding, foreign diplomatic representations in Vietnam have updated the situation either in their websites or Facebook pages, helped their citizens carry out administrative formalities to return home and warned them not to leave the Vietnam. The Biristh embassy in Vietnam told Hanoitimes via email that the embassy highly appreciated the Vietnamese government's response to Covid-19. “The system has been quick to identify and isolate cases. The WHO has commended the response,” the embassy wrote. European Union working to increase economic, security ties in Pacific
The European Union is working to boost its presence in the Pacific through economic ties and new security commitments as geostrategic competition in the region intensifies, the bloc's ambassador to Pacific Island nations said on Tuesday. Ambassador Sujiro Seam told Reuters in an interview during a visit to New Zealand the EU had long been seen as a development partner in the Pacific and that it wanted to be perceived as an economic and strategic partner as well. The EU's push comes as major powers are vying for influence in the region, with the United States and Australia ramping up engagement in the Pacific after China signed a security pact with the Solomon Islands this year. President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum reopens
A trip to Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum can be an extraordinary experience for any visitor. The Mausoleum of late President Ho Chi Minh in Hanoi reopened to the public today [August 16] after regular maintenance since June 13, according to the mausoleum’s Management Board. Army Games 2022 opens in Moscow
This year event drew the participation of 264 teams from 34 nations to compete in 34 events. Its competitions take place in 12 countries, namely Russia, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, China, Iran, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, and Vietnam. It will last till August 27. This was the first time that the Army Games is held in Venezuela, a Latin American nation. The games also witness two new participating countries: Bolivia and Rwanda.
