Fifty years ago, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and Prime Minister Fidel Castro visited Vietnam, and travelled to Quang Tri province – a newly liberated land in the south of Vietnam. As the first and only foreign head of state to visit the liberated zone before the war ended, Fidel Castro’s historic visit became a symbol of faithful and fraternal solidarity between peoples of the two countries with noble ideals for peace, national independence, democracy and progress in the world. AAE-1 undersea optic cable runs into problem
The Asia-Africa-Europe 1 (AAE-1) submarine optic cable system has encountered a problem, causing loss of internet data transmission capacity on the section that connects with Singapore, while the repair of another cable system has yet to be completed. The cause of the incident, which occurred on Wednesday, has yet to be determined. Internet service providers in Vietnam have yet to receive a repair notice from managers of the AAE-1 cable system, which has been put into operation since July 2017. Activities bring joy to children during Mid-Autumn Festival
State President Vo Van Thuong shared the joy with children at a special event in the southern province of Binh Phuoc on September 27. Some 100 children in the province, including 50 who lost their parents from COVID-19 and 50 who are disadvantaged, received Mid-Autumn gifts and scholarships worth 2 million VND (equivalent to 83 USD) each from the President. Hanoi photographer honored at International Photography Awards 2023
Photographer Viet Van is the winner of another photography award in America, the latest addition to his collection of 80 international photography awards. Hanoi-based photographer Tran Viet Van of Lao Dong (Labor) newspaper was among the honorable mentions at the 20th International Photography Awards (IPA) 2023 in the US. Van's entry, which consists of nine color photos with the theme Nhip dap thoi gian (The Rhythm of Time), was recognized in the Press Photo category. Vietnamese itching to take leisure trips overseas
80% of 1,500 Vietnamese survey respondents planned to have an overseas holiday, just slightly behind Thailand at 86% and Singapore at 85%, and ahead of the Philippines at 69%, Malaysia at 64% and Indonesia at 56%. The survey shows that intent to travel remains strong across the region. Of those surveyed, 72% plan to travel abroad at least once in the next 12 months, jumping from just 39% when borders reopened in 2022, indicating intent to travel has climbed by 84% in just one year. While Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia lead the way in terms of destinations within Southeast Asia, Vietnamese put Japan, South Korea and China at the top list of countries they are planning to explore. Some 77% of those planning leisure trips are planning to travel two or more times in the next 12 months. Deputy PM hosts new RoK ambassador
Noting that the RoK is one of the biggest foreign investors in Vietnam, Deputy PM Quang affirmed that the Vietnamese Government will continue with drastic efforts to improve the business and investment environment for foreign investors, including those from the RoK, to do business successfully in the country. He proposed that the two countries maintain regular visits and contact at all levels so as to continuously strengthen relations between their leaders, creating the foundation for promoting cooperation across all fields.
