Bilateral tensions have risen recently over naval disputes in contested areas of the South China Sea and the increasing U.S. military presence in the Philippines. "Both sides reaffirmed the importance of properly managing differences through friendly consultations, as well as maintaining the general direction of Sino-Philippine friendship," Beijing's ministry said in a statement. In February, raw sugar futures hovered at the 6-year high of roughly US 22 cents a pound set on February 27. Specifically, February's average raw sugar price was US 20.23 cents a pound, compared to US 18.87 cents per pound in January and US 18.93 cents in December 2022. According to the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, the average sugar price was US 18.5 cents per pound during the first ten months of 2022. The Rome-based agency forecast that by 2029, the average sugar price will reach US 21.3 cents but the fact is that the price exceeded the figure in January. (Photo: VNA) Bac Lieu (VNA) – The Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu is determined to join the entire Vietnam in combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and sustainably developing the fisheries sector for the sake of people and the country, Chairman of its People’s Committee Pham Van Thieu has said. With an annual catch of about 120,000 tonnes of seafood, Bac Lieu identifies fisheries as a key sector. Given this, it has been ramping up the fight against IUU fishing and obtained many encouraging results. Notably, it hasn’t recorded any fishing vessels infringing foreign waters since 2022. Thailand improves rank on World Happiness Report 2023

The report evaluates 137 countries based on various criteria, including social support, income, expectations of a healthy life, and perceptions of corruption, to assess happiness levels. The report, released on March 20 to coincide with the International Day of Happiness, is published by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network. The ministry’s Centre of Information and Education for Health on March 23 reported that the country has confirmed 670 dengue fever cases so far this year. Vientiane reported the highest number with 116. Health authority asked people to keep taking preventive measures like closing and sealing all unused containers, flushing out all water vessels, placing the mosquito larvae-eating guppy fish in water jars, and cleaning areas around homes. Moreover, people in Laos are advised to take a blood test at a hospital if they fall ill.
