Vietnam’s Da Lat City overcrowded with vehicles of Tet goers
All major streets in Vietnam’s tourist highland city of Da Lat were packed with vehicles on Thursday, the last day of the seven-day Tet break (2023 Lunar New Year) as so many personal cars and passenger vans traveled to the city. The traffic jams were serious as so many vehicles entered the city center even though the number of visitors during this Tet was not too big compared to last year’s edition, as noted by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporters. Tran Manh Son, a visitor from Ho Chi Minh City, told Tuoi Tre that it took him nearly an hour to drive his family in his car for a distance of about three kilometers from a hotel on Trieu Viet Vuong Street to Tran Hung Dao Street. “Cars and larger vehicles were overloaded everywhere, so many cars inched a bit, as slow as walking,” Son said. The area of Xuan Huong Lake was constantly congested from 8:30 am to 11:00 am, and the same situation was recorded in many other sites, including the city’s flower garden, the Ong Dao … [Read more...] about Vietnam’s Da Lat City overcrowded with vehicles of Tet goers

Paris Peace Accords decisive condition for Vietnam’s unification
The negotiation of the Paris Peace Accords (signed January 27, 1973) was one of the longest running negotiations in the history of international diplomacy. Why did it take 5 years for the Accords to be signed? An international negotiation would normally only take several days, or several months. But negotiations for the Paris Accords lasted almost 5 years for many reasons, including politics, complex historical contexts and unpredictability on the battlefield. First, the stances taken by U.S. officials and the Democratic Republic of Vietnam at the beginning of negotiations were vastly different, almost opposites of each other. The Democratic Republic of Vietnam asked the U.S. to pull its troops out of the South and end its military intervention, while the U.S. wanted the opposite, arguing that their role was necessary to maintain stability in the South. There were many times when negotiations had to stop as both sides could not reach an agreement on this key point. Second, … [Read more...] about Paris Peace Accords decisive condition for Vietnam’s unification
Anti-war activist stresses significance of Paris Peace Accords
Activist Cora Weiss in an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency (Source: VNA) New York (VNA) – The Paris Agreement on Ending the War and Restoring Peace in Vietnam, signed 50 years ago, came as a result of stressful and protracted negotiations and held extreme importance, said activist Cora Weiss, one of the leaders of the anti-Vietnam-war movement then. She told the Vietnam News Agency that the Paris Peace Accords, signed on January 27, 1973, helps give the US administration a way out from a 10-year illegitimate and unjust war in which millions of Vietnamese and tens of thousands of American soldiers were killed or exposed to Agent Orange. The agreement helped put an end to this and paved the way for ending the war and restoring peace in Vietnam, she noted. During the years of negotiations, the movement rose to the strongest-ever level. From 1969, thousands took to the streets in Washington D.C. to oppose the war. The number of participants in anti-war campaigns … [Read more...] about Anti-war activist stresses significance of Paris Peace Accords

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), the scale of the Vietnamese retail market is USD 142 billion, which is expected to reach USD 350 billion in 2025, with contribution of 59% to total GDP. Last year, the total revenue from retail sales of goods and services rose 21%, exceeding the target of 8%. A survey by Vietnam Report showed that over 53.8% of total retail firms enjoyed similar and higher business results compared to the pre-pandemic level. Experts held that growth of retail sales is being supported by rise in income and the strong recovery of the tourism sector as well as relevant sectors such as transport and accommodations, as well as the effectiveness of inflation control measures. Particularly, from now to the lunar New Year (Tet) Festival, which falls in late January, consumers are predicted to loosen their wallet dramatically. At the same time, there are signs of vibrant retail activities as many foreign investors have announced their plans to … [Read more...] about Retail market forecast to bustle this year
Paris Peace Accords – a victory of Vietnam’s diplomacy
This was a turning point in the national history, creating a new advantage for Vietnam’s struggle, contributing to the Spring 1975 General Offensive, which ultimately liberated the South and reunified the country. A fight on battlefield of diplomacy Since 1965, together with sending troops to invade the Southern region and conduct the destructive warfare in the Northern region, the U.S. conducted numerous diplomatic campaigns, with an aim to force Vietnam to negotiate unconditionally. Under this scenario, the Party affirmed the determination to fight against the invaders. During the 13th conference of the Party Central Committee in January 1967, the Party decided that the political and military warfare in the Southern region was a decisive factor for the victory in the diplomatic battlefield. After the Spring 1968 General Offensive and Uprising, the Paris Peace Conference was opened in Paris in May 1968, beginning a fierce fight on the diplomatic battlefield. The conference … [Read more...] about Paris Peace Accords – a victory of Vietnam’s diplomacy
