“Japan Street” to bolster Vietnam-Japan business cooperation: JETRO
More than 100 Japanese companies in the food industry and 30 in cosmetics are looking for partners and expanding business in Vietnam. Vietnam-UK target US$10-billion trade turnover by 2023
UK trade minister Anne-Marie Trevelyan said the country wants to be a part of Vietnam’s development story in the 21st century, and fostering bilateral trade relations is among its priorities. Outstanding tariff preferences The British Embassy in Vietnam has forecast that Vietnam will save about US$151 million in tariffs from the deal, while the UK stands to save around US$36 million. Although the UKVFTA took effect at a time when the pandemic was ravaging the two countries, bilateral trade still reached US$6.6 billion in the pact’s first year. In fact, 65 percent of all tariffs have already been eliminated from UK-Vietnam trade. In the first six years of the deal, the UK will eliminate 99.2 percent of tariff lines on Vietnam’s imports. This is higher than the terms of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) with 70.3 percent tariff elimination. Trade promotion plays a key role for the dairy sector How has the dairy sector recovered from the pandemic? Despite the prolonged pandemic, the domestic dairy market still reached VND113.7 trillion in revenues in 2020 and VND119.3 trillion in 2021. The country produced about 1.77 billion liters of fresh milk in 2021, up 4.5 percent compared to 2020, while powdered milk volume saw positive growth of 13.1 percent year-on-year to 151,500 tonnes. Vietnamese dairy businesses have strengthened trade promotion activities and sought export markets. Currently, Vietnamese dairy products are available in 50 countries and territories. In 2021, the sector had a turnover of nearly US$300 million. Milk is a special product and export markets always put quality at the top. Collectius acquires more than $800 million of non-performing loans in Vietnam
The deal, which includes a combination of credit cards and personal loans, represents the largest single acquisition made by Collectius to date and signifies a growing need for debt restructuring solutions in the country as loan defaults become more common. The NPLs were a joint acquisition by Collectius and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group. Both parties partnered in 2020 to launch the $60 million Distressed Asset Recovery Platform Programme that focuses on the acquisition and resolution of distressed assets across emerging markets. This programme helped many customers across the region meet their financial obligations and regain creditworthiness. IFC is also a minority equity shareholder in Collectius. Hundreds of businesses to receive support from USAID IPSC Project
On June 30, the project started to revise and select eligible and qualified businesses to receive support packages for the second intake of 2022, running from April 1 to June 30. The USAID IPSC, with a total budget of $36 million, is currently Vietnam's largest private-sector technical assistance project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The project aims to support businesses to overcome the pandemic, improve their capacity in governance, technology, financial access, innovation, and market access, and promote a favourable business investment environment. USAID IPSC targets to support 5,000 small and growing businesses. USAID IPSC officially launched and opened registration on January 18. The applicants go through selection processes (the first in April, the second in July, and the third in November), to receive support packages.
