Vietnamese children in need of online safety skills: experts
It's necessary to have joint efforts from all stakeholders, regardless of the Government, families, civil society, experts, and children, to ensure a safe digital environment for youngsters. Children aged 12-17 should be equipped with the essential knowledge to protect them in the digital world, as only 36% of them are taught how to stay safe online in Vietnam. Tran Dang Khoa, Deputy Director of the Information Security Department under the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), raised the idea for fear that Vietnamese children will face increasing online threats if adults do not pay enough attention to the children. Khoa cited a report by the Ministry of Public Security's Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention, which said that of 135 cases of online child abuse handled by police in the first quarter of 2023, 116 were related to sexual harassment. Program spreads cultural values of lotus and Vietnamese Ao dai
The event introduced thousands of lotuses, together with collections of the Vietnamese Ao dai (Vietnamese traditional long dress), and antique bicycles. Through the activities at the program, the organizing panel expected to spread the beauty of the lotus flower and the traditional cultural values of the Ao dai which flatters the beauty of Vietnamese women. At present, Vietnam is studying and finalizing dossiers seeking recognition of the lotus as the National Flower of Vietnam and UNESCO recognition of the Ao dai as intangible cultural heritage. Earlier, an art space, themed “Lotus Calligraphy,” was held at the Hanoi Museum to introduce 40 calligraphy works written on lotus paintings by collector Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam, President of the Vietnamese Ao dai Heritage Club. Co-organized by the provincial People's Committee and the Ho Chi Minh City Computer Association (HCA), the two-day event features a NASA talk show, a NASA STEM contest for students aged 6-18, and the exploration of the starry sky. Participants are also treated to dining and taking pictures with astronauts.
