2023 set to be favourable for Vietnamese rice enterprises
The Vietnamese rice industry is set to benefit from the high demand and prices this year, with lower input costs leading to expanded profit margins for rice businesses. Vietnamese gov’t to seek legislative nod on 3-month e-visa validity
The Vietnamese government will seek the lawmaking National Assembly (NA)'s approval for a proposal that visitor e-visa validity would be increased to three months from one month for foreigners who want to enter Vietnam. The Government Office has released conclusions of the government’s Standing Committee on visa exemptions for foreign citizens and a number of immigration policy changes. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh earlier chaired a meeting over the issue, during which the Standing Committee asked the Ministry of Public Security to team up with relevant agencies to complete proposals on e-visa validity extension and immigration policy changes to be submitted at an upcoming NA session, scheduled for May this year. Over 85% of major Vietnamese companies are committed to ESG standards
Vietnamese companies prioritize environmentally friendly and sustainable practices as part of their efforts to ensure long-term growth. More than 85% of Vietnam's 500 fastest-growing companies (FAST 500) have committed or plan to comply with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards, according to a survey conducted by the Vietnam Report Company (Vietnam Report). The Vietnamese broke all three of his own youth world records when he finished 24kg clear of his nearest rival in the men’s 55kg category on March 26. K'Duong, who celebrated his 16th birthday three weeks ago, was the only current world record holder among the men’s entries in Durres. He has made only 11 attempts in his international weightlifting career and he has already set six world records. In the snatch event, he missed his first attempt at 107kg because of a press-out, but successfully managed it the second time to secure the first gold. Vietnamese farm produce finds favour in Belgium
Participation in the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) has also enabled Vietnamese farm produce to make inroads into the European market. Belgium is Vietnam’s sixth-largest trade partner in the EU. Bilateral trade surged nearly 54% to 4.3 billion USD in 2021 compared to 2020, and reached 4.5 billion USD in 2022. VPBank sells 15% stake to Japan’s SMBC for 1.5 bln USD

With this deal, SMBC, a subsidiary of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, Inc (SMFG), has officially become a foreign strategic investor of the Vietnamese bank. The investment from SMBC will help VPBank raise 35.9 trillion VND (approximately 1.5 billion USD) of Tier 1 capital (equal to 30,160 VND per share), increasing its equity to approximately 140 trillion VND from 103.5 trillion VND.
