Vietnamese woman conquers Mount Everest
On Monday morning, Seven Summit Treks, a company that organizes climbing expeditions over all mountains above 8,000 m in Nepal, China and Pakistan announced on its Twitter feed that Nha had succeeded in climbing the highest mountain via the southeast ridge at 3:30 a.m. Nepal time (4:45 a.m. Hanoi time). It also confirmed she was the first Vietnamese woman to do so, emphasizing that it was a historic achievement for the Vietnamese climbing community. Nha, 35, who works as a lawyer in HCMC, is a member of the Seven Summit Treks Everest Expedition 2022. Vietnamese pottery village charms with unique technique
Different from those in many other famous pottery villages across Vietnam, potteries made by the Cham people in Bau Truc Village in south-central Ninh Thuan Province feature a special method: walking around the products to shape them. Located in Ninh Phuoc District, about 10 kilometers from the provincial capital of Phan Rang, Bau Truc is one of the oldest pottery villages in Southeast Asia and the ceramic making technique here has been listed as national intangible cultural heritage, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism. Bau Truc pottery items are made from clay from the Quao River mixed with sand. Clay is collected from the river only once a year, each time lasting for half a month. Vietnamese whale worshippers rejoice as 300-year-old skeleton restored
After nearly 300 years, two whale skeletons in Quang Ngai Province, central Vietnam have been restored and put on display for public view. It is common practice amongst Vietnamese fishermen to store the skeletons of whales that washed ashore in temples. There, locals worship the bones of these massive sea creatures. In Ly Son District, a string of islands off the coast of central Vietnam, two of these skeletons were recently completely restored for a public display. Grandfather fish Fishermen in Vietnam call whales ‘grandfather fish,’ implying that they are of a high status. In Ly Son, an area which holds whales in particularly high regard, locals are excited for their two recently restored whale skeletons to be put on display. “Very soon everyone will get to see the grandfather fish at the Tan temple,” said 79-year-old Pham Thoai Tuyen.
