A recent trip by a Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporter has offered a fascinating glimpse of an age-old relic complex on the outskirts of Hanoi which is home to a legendary young hero and a UNESCO-recognized festival held to pay tribute to him. Located only 20 kilometers from the heart of the Vietnamese capital, Phu Dong Commune in Gia Lam District is legendarily believed to be where Thanh Giong, one of the four immortal heroes in Vietnamese folklore, was born and defeated Chinese invaders. As legend has it, Thanh Giong’s mother conceived him soon after she put her foot into a huge footstep. At three years old, Thanh Giong remained unable to speak or walk. CPV: The Vietnamese football team, on November 17th, is scheduled to fly to the Philippines to carry out the difficult and lofty goal of bringing home the gold medal. Thousands of Vietnamese people dream that their team will bring home the gold medal. Football is considered the king of sports not only in Vietnam but also in the world. The first time Vietnam participated in the regional sporting event was in 1989, at the 15th SEA Games, which was held in Malaysia. Up till now, the team has come home with only two silver medals. The Tiger cup tournament has been played 2 times in Vietnam but Vietnam has not made it to final. The love of fans together with the support of the Vietnamese State are the biggest spiritual encouragements for the athletes. But fans have run out of patience. HCMC - Vietnamese track and field, shooting, vovinam, wrestling, gymnastic and fencing contestants earned nine more golds to increase its gold medal tally to 26 after day four of the 26th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Indonesia. Indonesia still leads the way with 60 golds, 48 silvers and 37 bronzes. Thailand follows with 35 gold, 27 silver and 35 bronze medals with Vietnam still third on 26 golds, 29 silvers and 35 bronzes. It was a really successful day for Vietnam, though, as the nation also netted 11 silvers and 16 bronzes. Shooting star Hoang Xuan Vinh defeated powerful rivals from Thailand and Singapore to take the first gold on Monday in the 10-meter air pistol.
