At a meeting with Saintes Mayor Bruno Drapron, the city's department of commerce and trade, representatives from Nouvelle-Aquitaine region and the local farmers’ association, Ambassador Dinh Toan Thang highlighted cooperation potentials between the two countries’ localities in various fields such as agriculture, sustainable tourism development, railway, seaport and technical infrastructure. Vietnamese PM to pay official visits to Singapore, Brunei
Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, his spouse, and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation will pay official visits to Singapore and Brunei Darussalam from February 8 to 11, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Sunday. The visits will be made at the invitations of Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Brunei Darussalam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, respectively. This will be PM Chinh’s first visits to these two countries after assuming his prime minister position, and a visit by a Vietnamese prime minister to Singapore after five years and to Brunei Darussalam after 15 years. Miranda Lambert dons Vietnamese-designed gown at Grammys
The 39-year-old country singer turned heads with a custom, black down dripping in silver fringe. The gown was developed from a design in Le Thanh Hoa's collection named Sa Vu, which was released in April last year. Lambert chose black, pointy-toe heels to go with the dress and avoid using too much jewelry and accessories. On this day in 1918, the first publication of “Nu Gioi Chung” (Women's Bell) newspaper, where Nguyet Anh was editor in chief, was published. The drawing of Nguyet Anh on Google Doodle was illustrated by Hanoi-based guest artist Camelia Pham. In honor of one of her most popular poems based around apricot blossoms, the Doodle artwork incorporates apricot blossoms and an apricot color palette. Nguyet Anh was born on March 8, 1864, in An Binh Dong village of southern Ben Tre province. She became the country’s first female editor in chief when she started writing for “Nu Gioi Chung” newspaper in Saigon. Many of the newspaper’s issues focused on women’s roles in Vietnamese culture and society. Suong Nguyet Anh is best remembered for her bright mind and personality, as well as her resilience through adversity. Vietnamese students win gold at Invention Creativity Olympic 2023
Four Vietnamese students from Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted in the northern province of Nam Dinh won a gold medal at the World Invention Creativity Olympic (WICO) 2023, which recently concluded in the Republic of Korea (RoK). Vietnamese steamed rice rolls one of world’s 10 must-try dishes
"There's a certain magic to the way these big sheets of steamed rice noodles are made, before they're wrapped around savory fillings and served with herbs and sauce," the magazine said about Vietnam’s banh cuon . Banh cuon is a traditional Vietnamese dish that is always overshadowed by the omnipresent banh mi or pho. To make banh cuon , a thin noodle sheet is steamed on a thin layer of fabric placed over a pot of boiling water. The sheets are then filled with minced pork and served with cha lua (Vietnamese pork bologna), fried rice powder cake and a sweet dipping fish sauce. The dish ranges from VND25,000-VND50,000 ($1.05-$2.11) per serving. No Vietnamese citizens affected by earthquake in Turkey, Syria so far
On February 6, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs directed the Vietnamese embassies in Turkey as well as in Iran and Syria to contact local authorities and the Vietnamese expatriate community to update information and be ready to take citizen protection measures in case there are Vietnamese among victims of the disaster that occurred in the morning of the same day. Related fatalities have so far soared above 4,300, with many buildings flattened. According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred at about 4:17 a.m. (local time) with the epicenter located 17.9 km in depth in Gaziantep province. It also detected another earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 that occurred about 15 minutes later near the first location. As one of the world's most active earthquake zones, Turkey experienced several strong earthquakes in the past, including the one with a magnitude of 7.4 in 1999 that was the most severe in decades, resulting in over 17,000 fatalities. Vietnamese embassy contacts Turkish authorities following devastating earthquake

First Secretary of the Embassy Nguyen Phu Tan Huong said following the incident, the embassy immediately contacted the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs ’ departments in charge of immigration and Asia-Pacific, police and authorities of 10 localities recording casualties, including Kahramanmaras, Adiyaman, Gaziantep, Hatay, Diarbakir, Kilis, Osmaniye, Sanliurfa, Adana and Malatya. According to the latest report, Syria recorded 560 fatalities and over 1,089 injured victims in the strong earthquake with epicenter in central Turkey, while Turkey reported 912 deaths and more than 5,000 injuries.
