The feminine Vietnamese rapper, Suboi together with legendary supermodel and activist Iman, actress and activist Rosario Dawson, hip hop artist Chance the Rapper, musician and composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, actress Chloë Sevigny and activist Xiuhtezcatl Martine are selected for the Kenzo X H&M campaign. The rapper whose real name is Hang Lam Trang Anh was born in 1990 in Ho Chi Minh City. She is known by her stage name Suboi. She is the first Vietnamese female rapper to achieve success in the country and is considered as Vietnam's queen of hip hop. Suboi had an exchange with US President Barack Obama in HCM City during a town hall meeting with a group from the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) in May. Vietnamese female boxers to compete in Taiwan championship
Vietnamese female boxers will leave for Taiwan on November 24 to compete at the International Boxing Contest 2004 taking place from Nov. 24 to 30. The Nhan Dan daily newspaper reports that the Vietnamese team consists of five boxers, namely Nguyen Thi Thuy Huong in the under-48 kilograms weight division, Vu Thi Hai Yen under 50 kilograms, Nguyen Thi Chien under 52 kilos, Ta Thi Minh Nghia under 54 kilograms, and Bui Thi Hien Hoa in the under-57 kilo weight division. Vietnamese female tennis player named on world ratings
Vietnamese tennis player Nguyen Thuy Dung has proved a hit in the International Tennis Federation world rankings for the first time in her career. Ms Dung now has the modest achievement of being 1,372 nd in the world, which she earned after finishing in key competitions on the women's international tennis circuit, including two pro-tournaments in Thailand. Ms Dung is currently training in Ho Chi Minh City under the guidance of coach Tran Duc Quynh. In early June, she will begin training in Thailand before competing in Japan. Kovalevskaia Prize honours Vietnamese female scientists
PANO - The Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) held a ceremony on March 6th in Hanoi to celebrate 30 years of the Kovalevskaia Prize in Vietnam and hand over the 2015 prizes to outstanding Vietnamese women in the field of sciences. The prestigious prize is named after the great Russian female mathematician Sofia Kovalevskaia, and is awarded by the fund of the same name. The fund is operating in eight countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia. The first two Vietnamese scientists receiving the awards in 1985 were Meritorious Teacher Bui Thi Ty và Ass. Prof., Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Chi. Since then, the title has been presented to a total of 17 collectives and 44 individuals in various fields such as mathematics, chemistry, biology, to name but a few. 42 Vietnamese female workers in squalid conditions in Malaysia
Malaysia's Star newspaper has recently reported the squalid conditions in which 42 Vietnamese female labourers are living in a small house in Jalantull in George Town in Penang. Most of them are 30 to 50-years-old and cannot return to Vietnam as their visas have expired. The pathetic condition of these women was discovered by a neighbour, who was being disturbed at nights from loud noises coming from the adjoining house where these guest workers were living. One woman named Hai said that most of the women were without jobs and were undergoing great hardships. They cannot also send remittance back to their families in Vietnam. Some worked as cleaners in hospitals and were paid 50 Malaysian ringgit per day which was later reduced to only 25 ringgit. Besides the low pay, the Malaysian employers even owed wages of these Vietnamese female labourers, and gave then only rice and salt to eat.
