(Photo: VNA) London (VNA) – Speakers from the British Museum and Library have introduced documents on Vietnam’s culture and its long-standing ties with the UK, at a discovering-Vietnam event held at the D-Contemporary in central London. The March 30 event was organsied by the Vietnamese Embassy as part of its Vietnamese Days in the UK programme lasting from March 28 to April 27. One of the speakers, Sud Chonchirdsin, the curator for the Vietnamese collection at the British Library from 2005-2019, showed visitors to historical documents proving that the Vietnam-UK trade relationship was formed 350 years before the two countries officially established diplomatic relations in 1973. Vietnam aggressively implementing the Paris Agreement
Speaking at an event for "Support to Vietnam for the implementation of the Paris Agreement” (VN-SIPA), Jens Schmid-Kreye, deputy director of the Department of Economic Cooperation and Development at the German Embassy in Vietnam said, "The Vietnamese government and people can depend on the assistance of the German government to help the country strive towards the objectives of the Paris Agreement." UK defense minister visits Vietnam, bolsters bilateral defense partnership
UK Minister of State for Defense Baroness Goldie visited Vietnam on Wednesday and Thursday to continue efforts to strengthen the two countries’ bilateral defense partnership. During the visit, Goldie met with Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of National Defense, and co-chaired the UK and Vietnam’s Fourth Defense Policy Dialogue – an annual bilateral meeting between the two nations which focuses on the future of joint defense cooperation. The minister also visited the Vietnam Department for Peacekeeping Operations as the UK reaffirms its support for Vietnam in developing as a UN Troop Contributing Nation. The UK has already supported Vietnam’s deployments, including to South Sudan and Abyei, by training medical and engineering personnel. French navy ship to visit Haiphong
French Navy frigate Prairial will pay a visit to the northern port city of Haiphong from April 2-6. According to the French Embassy in Vietnam, the trip exemplifies military cooperation between France and Vietnam in support of international law and freedom of navigation. French Navy frigate Prairial During their stay in Vietnam, the French guests will visit Vietnamese naval ships. The two sides will participate in exchange activities, such as meetings on experience exchange and volleyball competition. A French crew medical team will come to Haiphong University of Medicine and Pharmacy and meet Vietnamese doctors. Representatives from Haiphong authorities and the Haiphong High Command of Region 1 of the Vietnam People’s Navy are scheduled to receive Rear Admiral Francois Maignan, Commander of the ship. German-funded project supports Vietnam in implementing Paris Agreement
The project was funded by the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) under the International Climate Initiative (IKI) and implemented by the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) from 2019 to 2023. Addressing the event, Tang The Cuong, Director of the Department of Climate Change under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, said as one of the countries that are hardest hit by climate change, Vietnam has made strong commitments to joining hands with the international community in responding to climate change. The Government of Vietnam ratified the Paris Climate Accords in 2016 and issued a plan to implement the agreement. At the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26), the Vietnamese Prime Minister announced Vietnam’s commitment to net-zero emission by 2050.
