Tan Chuan-Jin, Speaker of Parliament of Singapore - the host country of the event, said that the 12th AIPA Caucus discussed the implementation of resolutions of the 41st AIPA General Assembly, including the Resolution on "the role of parliaments in promoting ASEAN cohesiveness and economic recovery post-COVID-19” , the Resolution on “Advancing AIPA's role in supporting ASEAN socio-cultural community in responding to COVID-19”, and the Resolution on “the role of women parliamentarians in securing jobs and income for women workers”. The Vietnamese delegation said amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, ASEAN should pay more attention to restoring supply chains and promoting trade connectivity in parallel with enhancing close cooperation to prevent the spread of the disease, especially cross-border transmission, accelerating COVID-19 vaccine purchase and vaccination, as well as cooperation in vaccine research and development. The delegation proposed six specific recommendations to AIPA member parliaments, related to many crucial issues such as completing legal framework to facilitate trade and investment activities, ensuring uninterrupted circulation of goods and supply chains in the region. Additional 6 million doses of AstraZeneca, Pfizer vaccines to arrive Vietnam in Q3

(Photo: AFP/VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Six million more doses of COVID-19 vaccines – half from the UK’s AstraZeneca and half from the US’s Pfizer – will arrive in Vietnam in the third quarter of this year, the Ministry of Health announced on June 15. Vietnam will receive about 1 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine via the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) Facility sometime between late June and early July, said Prof. Dang Duc Anh, Director of the National Institute of Epidemiology and Hygiene (NIHE). The vaccine will be offered to industrial park workers and priority groups detailed in the Government’s Decree 21, including frontline workers, diplomats, customs officers, teachers, among others. Another shipment of 2 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine, imported by the Ministry of Health from the UK-based pharmaceutical company through the Vietnam Vaccine JSC (VNVC), is due to arrive in the country by the end of September. Meanwhile, Pfizer announced it will ship 3 million of coronavirus vaccine to Vietnam within the third quarter. It, however, also noted that the time of shipment and the number of doses provided to Vietnam may be subject to change. Anh said COVAX-supplied vaccines have been distributed to 63 cities and provinces and several units of the ministries of National Defence and Public Security. More than 200,000 doses have been delivered to the pandemic-hit provinces of Bac Ninh and Bac Giang to give to industrial park workers. Vietnam has been accelerating its COVID-19 vaccine vaccination efforts. The country targets to secure around 150 million doses this year to inoculate at least 70-80 percent of its population, in order to achieve herd immunity. Vietnam posts 174 new domestic COVID-19 cases on June 16 noon
Collecting samples for COVID-19 testing (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam reported 176 new COVID-19 cases from 6am to 12pm on June 16, comprising 174 domestic and two imported ones, according to the Ministry of Health . Of the locally transmitted infections, Bac Giang logged 128 cases, Ho Chi Minh City 35, Bac Ninh eight, Ha Tinh two and Nghe An one. Up to 173 cases were detected in quarantine sites or sealed off areas. The national tally reached 11,480, including 9,831 local cases. The number of COVID-19 cases since April 27, when the latest outbreak began, amounted to 8,261. There were 4,543 recoveries while the death toll remained at 61. Among active patients undergoing treatment at medical establishments, 343 have tested negative for coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 once, 99 twice and 55 thrice. Twenty-four provinces have gone through 14 consecutive days without new cases. In a bid to live safely with the pandemic, the MoH has called on citizens to follow the 5K message, including khau trang (facemask), khu khuan (disinfection), khoang cach (distance), khong tu tap (no gathering), and khai bao y te (health declaration), to help contain the outbreaks./.
