According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s Foreign Investment Agency (FIA), accumulatively as of May 20, total foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows into Vietnam reached $10.86 billion, a drop of 7.3 per cent on-year, the fall is getting smaller than in previous months. Of this, newly registered capital was $5.26 billion, up 27.8 per cent on-year; additionally registered capital was $2.28 billion, down 59.4 per cent; and capital contribution and share purchase $3.32 billion, up 67.2 per cent. Do Nhat Hoang, FIA director-general, said that the rise of newly registered investment in the first five months is much higher than that in the first four months (11 per cent). Michelin Guide arouses controversy after Vietnam debut
Foodie circles in Vietnam are ridden with complaints after the Michelin Guide announced its list of 103 recommended restaurants in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday. In the inaugural edition of the Michelin Guide for Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, four restaurants were recognized with one Michelin Star for their high-quality cooking, 29 establishments received a Bib Gourmand for offering good food at moderate prices, and 70 others were recommended as the Michelin Selected restaurants. Vietnamese consumers’ overall optimism remained one of the highest among countries globally, according to global management consulting firm McKinsey. McKinsey wrote in a recent article on its website that Vietnamese consumers were optimistic that the country’s economy would rebound within two to three months and grow just as or even more strongly than before the COVID-19 pandemic. Vietnam’s e-commerce export revenues grow over 20% per year: conference
Vietnam’s e-commerce export revenue is currently experiencing a remarkable annual growth rate exceeding 20 percent and is projected to reach VND296.3 trillion (US$12.6 billion) by 2027. The forecast was released at the Vietnam Cross-border E-commerce Conference 2023 held in Hanoi on Wednesday by the E-commerce and Digital Economy Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade in collaboration with Amazon Global Selling, a program that enables merchants to list and sell their products across the world on U.S. e-commerce giant Amazon’s marketplaces. Prime Minister orders further saving electricity during 2023-2025
Accordingly, the PM requested that during the 2023-2025 period and subsequent years, the entire country strives to save a minimum of 2% of total electricity consumption each year, reduce electricity losses on the entire power system to below 6% by 2025, and decrease the peak load capacity of the national power system through the implementation of the Demand-Side Management (DSM) and Demand Response (DR) programs, by at least 1,500 MW by 2025. By 2030, the goal is to have half of office buildings and half of residential buildings equipped with rooftop solar power systems for self-consumption, without selling electricity back to the national power grid.
