Co-organized by the MARD and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), the event focused on the role of raw bamboo in the development of the value chain of Vietnamese bamboo products. Participants discussed the plant's role, position and value in Vietnam’s traditional culture, climate change response, and market mechanism. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam said bamboo trees bring about export value of about 300-400 million USD a year. To develop the bamboo industry, he recommended businesses, together with local authorities, and producers, to build large areas of raw materials to meet production, processing and export requirements. According to the MARD, Vietnam houses nearly 1.6 million ha of bamboos, producing 2.5-3 million tons of bamboo annually. Vietnam’s rice exports hit a record high
Vietnam’s rice remains favorite in the international market despite fierce competition. Vietnam exported nearly 4.2 million tons of rice during the first seven months of 2022, representing an increase of over 20% year-on-year, according to the Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Development (MARD). During the January-July period, Vietnam exported 4.19 million tons of rice for over US$2 billion, an increase of 20.5% year-on-year in volume and 9% in value. Vietnam using autonomy mechanism to revolutionize universities

Currently, 142/232 universities are eligible for autonomy according to the provisions of the revised Higher Education Law. Thanks to this autonomy mechanism, piloting universities can attract more capable lecturers and researchers, with the percentage of those owning a doctorate degree reaching 31 percent in 2021. Vietnam’s Co To Island to ban single-use plastic from next month
Authorities on Co To Island off Quang Ninh Province, northern Vietnam announced a pilot program to ban visitors from bringing plastic products onto the island starting September in an attempt to spur sustainable tourism. Speaking to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper last week, Nguyen Viet Dung, chairman of the Co To District People’s Committee, said the trial to forbid visitors from bringing plastic bottles, plastic bags, and materials carrying a risk of environmental pollution will last for several months. Analytical data from the Google Destination Insights tool (Travel Trends) shows that from the beginning of December 2021 to the beginning of January 2022, the number of international searches on Vietnam has increased sharply by 374% compared to the same period in 2021. Association chairman Vu Duc Giang Some of the concerns are real. Since the UFLPA became effective in June, Vietnam has witnessed certain impacts on its garment exports to the US. Vietnam has maintained its position as the world’s third-largest cotton importer with a volume of 1.5 million tonnes per year. This includes 800,000 tonnes of cotton imported from the US, accounting for 60 per cent of the total imports. In January 2021, US Customs and Border Protection announced a ban on raw fibres, apparel, and textiles made from Xinjiang-grown cotton, which also covers cotton products made in third countries. Customs will detain imported merchandise unless the importer can prove by clear and convincing evidence that the goods were not from Xinjiang.
