At a Wednesday meeting between Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the delegation of the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council (USABC), the council's president Ted Osius said U.S. businesses consider Vietnam a strategic market and are ready to commit to long-term investments in the Southeast Asian nation. Osius said the delegation were highly supportive of the Vietnamese government’s moves towards a more digital and green society. Laos suspends pork imports from Vietnam

According to the announcement, Laos will suspend the import of pork, including live pigs and processed products, from Vietnam. Relevant units will monitor illegal import at international, local and international border gates and international airports. Additionally, pork that has been smuggled or illegally imported into Laos must be destroyed. In 2020, Laos suspended the import of pork from China and Thailand after detecting seven outbreaks of African swine fever with 973 dead pigs in Salavan province. The move comes amid concerns that this measure might undermine the competitive advantage of developing countries in attracting foreign investment through offering tax incentives. The global minimum tax was Pillar Two of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation Development ( OECD )’s base erosion and profit-shifting (BEPS) framework. Minister hopes U.S. becomes biggest investor in Vietnam

Workshop highlights importance of impact-based disaster forecasting
Deputy head of the Vietnam Meteorological and Hydrological Administration (VNMHA) Hoang Duc Cuong said that the workshop, jointly held by the VNMHA and the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) in response to the World Meteorological Day (March 23), will provide international experiences on forecasting and warning based on practical impacts in the world and Vietnam, contributing to forming processes and measures to effectively forecast disaster impacts in Vietnam at present and in future. At the workshop, the ADPC guided participants on how to build an impact matrix of storms and floods. Dragon fruit export turnover reaches 47 million USD
Export turnover of Vietnamese dragon fruit is expected to top 1 billion USD in 2023./. Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has announced that the country's total export value of dragon fruit so far this year topped 47 million USD, a fall of 48.7% compared to the same period las year. The fruit has been exported to more than 40 countries and territories with China, India, the US, Thailand and the Netherlands being the biggest import ers. However, in the first two months of 2023, its export saw a slump in some markets such as the Republic of Korea (RoK) and Japan with decreases of 25.9% and 35.4%, respectively year-on-year.
