As a result, Vietnam’s tourism needs to quickly work out harmonious measures for the coming period of recovery. A sad economic year for the tourism sector has come to an end after many tremors caused by successive outbreaks of COVID-19 . Vietnam’s green economy in 2021 failed to recover as seen through the statistics of the yearly review, yet many experts still believe that in 2022, accelerations will be created with attention and assistance from the government. The Republic of Korea (RoK) topped the list of countries and territories with most foreign visitors to Vietnam in January 2023, the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO) announced on January 29. Located in central Vietnam, UNESCO-recognised Hoi An is one of the major tourist attractions for Korean visitors. (Photo: travelelog.com) According to data released the GSO, Vietnam welcomed 258,000 Korean arrivals in January, representing a 13-fold increase month on month and a 72fold increase year on year. The RoK was followed by the United States (nearly 78,000 arrivals), Thailand (55,000), Australia (44,225) and Malaysia (37,267). Besides, Japan, Cambodia, Singapore, Taiwan (China) and the United Kingdom were all countries and territories with large numbers of tourists to Vietnam in the first month of 2023. Launched in 2018, the OCOP programme focuses on developing specialty products and high-quality products in rural areas to increase incomes for locals and boost the sustainability of economic development in rural areas. OCOP products are commercial products and services such as food and beverages, handicrafts and rural tourism services. They are classified as having one to five stars. A grade-9 schoolgirl in Yen Bai Province, northern Vietnam has succumbed to her critical condition after drinking liquor at a party during the past Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday, local authorities reported on Saturday. The girl, identified only as M., died on Thursday, the last day of the seven-day Tet break, after she attended a drinking party at her friend’s house two days earlier in Ban Cong Commune of the province’s Tram Tau District. As the party was taking place, M. stepped out of the house and then fell down, Hang A Hanh, deputy chairman of the Ban Cong administration, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper. The girl was unconscious when being found by her friends and was taken to a local hospital immediately for emergency treatment, but she died two days later at the age of 15, Hanh said. Vietnam’s consumer price index (CPI) in January edged up by 0.52 % month-on-month, fueled by high consumer demand for the Lunar New Year or Tet which fell in the same month, the General Statistics Office said on January 29. In addition, the prices of goods, food and foodstuffs went up during the final lunar month to prepare for the longest annual holiday and domestic fuel prices rose to global levels, contributing to the rise of the index.
