Vietnam, Thailand eye stronger labour cooperation

Vietnam’s internet ranking rises despite cable disruptions
Illustrative image (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - February's Speedtest Global Index (SGI) showed that Vietnam jumped up six places to 39th in fixed broadband speeds, despite recent disruptions to all five of its submarine internet cables suffering outages. However, the country’s mobile internet speed slipped by nine ranks to 52. The average download speed of the country’s fixed broadband is 91.6 Mbps, while the upload speed is 93.38 Mbps. These figures for the mobile internet speed are 42.67 Mbps and 18.27 Mbps, respectively. Vietnam’s internet speeds are also higher than the global average, with a download speed of 39.77 Mbps and an upload speed of 10.18 Mbps for mobile internet. The global performance in fixed broadband download and upload speeds are 78.62 Mbps and 34.39 Mbps, respectively. In his remarks, Ngo Sy Anh, General Manager of Vietnam Airlines branch in Japan, affirmed the importance of the Japanese market to the company. Before the pandemic, the airline ran 68 flights every week to connect four major cities of Japan to Vietnam’s Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang. In 2019, it carried 1.6 million passengers on these routes. With the Vietnamese Government deciding to resume regular international flights from January 1 last year, Vietnam Airlines is now operating 42 flights linking the countries. Vietnamese PM to attend second Belt and Road Forum in Beijing
Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc will attend the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing, China from April 25 to 27. The trip will be made at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release on Monday. The Vietnamese premier will attend the forum’s opening on April 26 before joining President Xi and his spouse in a dinner on the evening of the same day. On April 27, PM Phuc is scheduled to speak at a roundtable summit attended by leaders of 36 other nations and China. Coastal communities to fight illegal fishing with own surveillance forces

In a document sent to Chairpersons of the municipal and provincial People’s Committees, the ministry pointed to the fact that aquatic resources, biodiversity and marine ecosystems are declining rapidly, along with huge and unsustainable exploitation. Meanwhile, the apparatus organisation for law enforcement in the localities has yet to be strengthened, and there are shortages of both workforce and equipment to carry out patrols, inspections and the settlement of wrongdoings at sea, leading to the high rate of violations of relevant legal regulations. Mangrove worm a staple in Saigon’s beloved porridge
The unnamed porridge shop in Tan Phu District sells porridge cooked in the style of the Teochew people, who originated in southeast China, which is served with shrimp, fish, pork intestines, and trung bien -mangrove sea worms. Tang Khanh Toan, the shop owner, said that the business started in 1983, and was passed down by his father. The eatery first started selling porridge on Au Co Street, which is one kilometer away from the current location at 104/22B Trinh Dinh Trong Street, Phu Trung Ward. The current location has also been the family's home since the 1990s. The porridge is quite popular among the Chinese community in Saigon. Mangrove worms are used in traditional Chinese medicine to raise testosterone levels and enhance health. According to the owner of the restaurant, many people confuse trung bien with sa sung , or peanut worms, because of the similar shape.
