Vietnam, Hong Kong step up cultural, art training cooperation

At the MoU signing ceremony (Photo: VNA) Hong Kong (VNA) – A memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cultural and art training cooperation between Vietnam and Hong Kong (China) was signed on September 19 at the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts (HKAPA) in the China’s special administrative region. According to the MoU, in the coming time, the two sides will prioritise cooperation in training students, including enrolling Vietnamese students in education and training programmes of the HKAPA. Besides, cultural and art training units of Vietnam and Hong Kong will bolster exchanges and research as well as cooperate in organising training activities in the performing art, music, dance, drama, theater and film production, among others. Director of HKAPA Professor Gillian Choa assessed that the signing of the MoU is a significance as it’s the first MoU of the academy with the Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The meeting, chaired by the Singaporean Minister of Foreign Affairs, was attended by representatives of the Troika of the Group of Twenty (G20) (previous, current and incoming Presidencies), as represented by Indonesia, India, and Brazil, and 30 member states of the 3G. Vietnam and Bangladesah have ample room for achieving stronger growth in their bilateral trade cooperation, as the two countries share many things in common, including being emerging economies with stable development, having large populations, markets, and sufficient human resources. In addition, a huge number of young people in the two countries are able to quickly embrace advanced technology and innovation trends, said Pham Viet Chien, Vietnamese Ambassador to Bangladesh, the Vietnam News Agency reported. Vietnam’s cashew ‘capital’ takes action to comply with EU’s anti-deforestation regulations

The regulation, approved by the European Commission (EC) on May 16, 2023, is the latest by the EU regarding green, sustainable development, specifically deforestation-free agricultural products. It sets mandatory due diligence rules for all operators and traders who place, make available or export the following commodities from the EU market: palm oil, cattle, wood, coffee, cocoa, rubber and soy. The rules also apply to a number of derived products such as chocolate, furniture, printed paper, and selected palm oil-based derivatives (used for example as components in personal care products). They will be applicable to most companies from December 2024. Micro-enterprises and small-medium enterprises would have an additional six months to comply with the regulation's requirements. Binh Phuoc's key products like rubber, cashew nuts, coffee, pepper, durian, and wood and wood products are expected to be impacted by the requirements. Vietnam becomes one of first nations to sign High Seas Treaty

Signing the agreement signaled that Vietnam is an active and responsible member of the international community. Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son signed the United Nations Agreement on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction (The High Seas Treaty) on September 20, making Vietnam one of the first countries to join the internationally legally binding instrument under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Vietnam emphasises importance of UNCLOS in marine environmental protection

(Photo: VNA) Berlin (VNA) – Le Duc Hanh, Director General of the Department of International Law and Treaties at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , on September 20 stressed that the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea ( UNCLOS 1982) creates a legal framework to regulate all activities at sea, including marine environmental protection. Presenting Vietnam’s views on the request for advisory opinion of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea ( ITLOS ) on states' obligations to respond to climate change, Hanh noted that the tribunal has the authority to give advice regarding greenhouse gas emissions that cause marine pollution. Countries have the obligation to take necessary measures towards their state agencies, groups, and businesses in order to minimise and control greenhouse gas emissions, she continued.
