Following a general upward trend between 2017 and 2022, the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) score in 2022 was 65.67 points, 0.37 points higher than the result in 2021, indicating continued progress in Vietnam's business environment. New task force launched for plastic waste reduction in Vietnam
Together with the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Hanoi and its commercial arm, Innovation Norway, the task force held its first meeting to discuss new technologies for a deposit return systems (DRS). The launch of the new task force on May 18 DRS is a scheme where consumers pay a small deposit when purchasing bottles or cans. The deposit is refunded when they return the container to a designated collection point. This initiative economically incentivises consumers to return used containers for reuse and recycling, reducing pressure on landfills and protecting rivers and oceans from plastic litter. High-performing DRS can significantly accelerate the circularity of beverage containers like plastic bottles and aluminium cans with high recovery rates, and is a key approach to extended producer responsibility (EPR) for companies that produce and use such containers. Some 30,000 volunteers offer helping hands to clean up trash across Vietnam
The campaign is aimed to gradually make Vietnam one of the five cleanest and most beautiful countries in Southeast Asia by 2025. The "Clean Up Vietnam" campaign, the largest of its kind in Vietnam, will return for the fifth time on June 4, with around 30,000 volunteers registered domestically and abroad. Themed "Pick Up Rubbish - Reach Out Global", this year's event will see the participation of several sponsors, media and environmental ambassadors, as well as celebrities such as singers Tien Manh and Phuong Thanh, TV host Manh Cuong, Hanna Giang Anh, and Trung Thao Mai. US aids Vietnam in preserving Nguyen Dynasty woodblocks
The State Archives and Records Administration held a ceremony on Thursday to declare the conclusion of a project focused on conserving Nguyen Dynasty ‘moc ban’ (woodblocks), a UNESCO-recognized documentary heritage item, at the National Archives Center IV in Lam Dong Province, southern Vietnam. Commencing in July 2020, the project was aimed at conserving 500 deteriorated woodblock plates at the National Archives Center IV. The initiative, which received more than US$88,000 in funding from the United States Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP), has now been completed. Following the approval of the AFCP grant in July 2020, a technical team conducted a thorough study and assessment of the level of damage sustained by the degraded woodblocks.
