(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of National Defence on September 25 handed over the State President’s decisions to three officers, who will join the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) and the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). The three are Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen My Hanh, and Captain Pham Thi Mai Ngan, who will work at UNISFA , and Major Hoang Van Kien, who will go to UNMISS . Kien will fly to the UN mission on September 28, while the others are scheduled to leave Vietnam in early October, according to Colonel Pham Manh Thang, Director of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations. Vietnam Coast Guard’s Military Intelligence and Reconnaissance Division established

Japanese engineers build road in Vietnam to mark two nations’ diplomatic ties
The idea of building the road section was strongly agreed by Senior Colonel Nguyen Nhu Canh, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, and Ms. Masuzawa Tomoko, Director for Defense Cooperation in the Indo - Pacific Region at Japan’s Ministry of Defense, head of the Japanese Experts’ Working Group on Peacekeeping Operations, the co-chair of the ADMM+ Experts’ Working Group on Peacekeeping Operations Cycle 4. To complete this road which leads to the field training ground in the framework of the CEPPP-2023 at Battalion 31, Brigade 28 of the Air Defense - Air Force Service, Japanese engineers used 4,000 tons of stones and applied special techniques to ensure its durability. Military observers practice handling typical challenge at U.N peacekeeping mission
The situation was that juvenile gunmen at an illegal checkpoint requested U.N staff to give them food, money and water, otherwise they would not be allowed to pass. In this situation, military observers must find a way to negotiate with these child gunmen to get through the checkpoint without violating U.N. principles without meeting their demands because they will ask more. The negotiations were not simple, especially at times that the drunken gunmen became angry and opened fire in the air, threatening military observers. Under the observation and guidance of the instructors, the prospective military observers calmly overcame the language barrier with the gunmen, making them calmer and agreeing to let the convoy pass.
