They include the purchase of 18 FA-50 light attack aircraft from Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), and four units of Sikorsky's Black Hawk helicopters to be leased from Malaysian firm Aerotree Defence and Services, the ministry said in a statement. KAI, the Republic of Korea's sole warplane manufacturer, won a bid to supply the jets to Malaysia for about 920 million USD. The acquisitions come as Malaysia looks to upgrade or replace several aging military assets. Vietnam International Defense Expo 2024 likely to be held in Tay Mo ward
Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien said that while leading a delegation of the Ministry of National Defense to conduct a field survey at Regiment 916, Division 371, the Air Defense - Air Force Service and of the construction site of the Vietnam Museum of Military History in Tay Mo and Dai Mo wards, Nam Tu Liem district on May 26. The deputy defense minister said that Gia Lam and Hoa Lac Airports are two standby options. During the trip, the working delegation said that the venue for the Vietnam International Defense Expo 2024 should be large enough and not be too far from central Hanoi, so as to better serve delegates and visitors. Vietnam ready for AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup’s second qualifying round
Vietnam, who topped Group F of the event’s first qualifying round, will compete in Group A with Australia, Iran and Lebanon in the second qualifier. “Vietnam’s opponents are all strong," coach Akira Ijiri said. "Australia are the strongest, but Iran and Lebanon in recent years are also very strong. It's going to be a tough qualifier. However, Vietnam are ready to compete well at the event." To prepare for the AFC event, Vietnam had an intensive training trip in Japan, where they had three friendly matches with Seisa Academy, JFA Fukushima Academy and Tokyo High School. ASEAN, Chinese senior officials meet on DOC implementation
Earlier, ASEAN member countries convened a meeting to coordinate their stances. Ambassador Vu Ho, Acting Head of ASEAN SOM Vietnam, led a Vietnamese delegation to the meetings. Myanmar, the coordinator of ASEAN - China ties, and China co-chaired the 20th SOM-DOC which took place after nearly two years of hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the meeting, delegates reaffirmed the value and importance of DOC in the region. They highly appreciated the positive results in the DOC implementation over the past time. Naval Service and localities’ delegation visit Truong Sa archipelago and DK1 platform
Passing more than 1,000 nautical miles, the delegation toured and encouraged soldiers and people working and living on islands of the Truong Sa archipelago and DK1/7 Platform. The delegation was briefed on the units’ task performance and presented meaningful gifts to the troops and people in the areas. The delegation also participated in a flag-saluting ceremony in Song Tu Tay (Southwest Cay) Island; offered incense at a memorial house dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh, a martyrs’ monument on Truong Sa (Spratly) Island, to name but a few. Due to harsh weather conditions, the delegation was unable to reach DK-1/7 platform. Rear Admiral Phan Tuan Hung and delegates inquired after troops on the platform via walkie talkie.
