Authorities in Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong Provinces, located in Vietnam’s south-central and Central Highlands regions, respectively, have sought to develop a 103km-long expressway linking the two localities in the 2025-28 period, said a local official. The administration of Khanh Hoa recently told relevant agencies to work with a consulting unit on a proposal to develop the Nha Trang - Lien Khuong Expressway project, Nguyen Tan Tuan, chairman of the Khanh Hoa People’s Committee, said on Thursday. According to the proposal, the route would start from an intersection with the Nha Trang - Cam Lam Expressway in Khanh Hoa to the end of the Lien Khuong - Prenn Expressway in Lam Dong, with some 48km of the route in Khanh Hoa and the rest in Lam Dong. Vietnam sees sharp hike in petrol prices
The retail prices of fuel products in Vietnam were revised upward starting from 4:00 pm on Thursday, with each liter of the popular RON95 gasoline soaring nearly VND900 (US$0.03), according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Biofuel RON92 now sells for VND24,190 ($0.99) per liter, up around VND720 ($0.02), while the popular RON95 rose by VND870 ($0.33) per liter to VND25,740 ($1.05) from VND24,871 ($1.02). The prices of oil products were also adjusted up. Diesel oil is offered at VND23,590 ($0.97) per liter, up VND540 ($0.02). The price of kerosene is capped at VND23,810 ($0.97) per liter, rising VND630 ($0.02) while that of heavy fuel oil is VND17,840 ($0.73) per kilogram, inching up VND140. During this fuel price adjustment, the ministry decided to tax each liter of most oil and petrol products sold by VND300 to replenish the national fuel price stabilization fund, except for heavy fuel oil. The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council has approved a plan to revitalize the Municipal Theatre, also known as the Saigon Opera House, as the theater has fallen into a state of degradation. The renovation of the opera house, which is considered as one of the city’s iconic symbols, is estimated to cost VND337 billion (US$13.9 million). Japanese Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko, together with Vice-State President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, paid a visit to late President Ho Chi Minh’s stilt house and fish pond on Thursday morning. Their jaunt was taken after talks between the top Vietnamese official and Japan’s crown prince. Vice-State President Xuan chaired a welcome ceremony for Akishino and Kiko at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi on Thursday morning. The stilt house and fish pond are situated in the late President Ho Chi Minh relic site. These places were the late president’s living and working space. The visit to the relic site was part of Akishino’s ongoing Vietnam trip, which will last until Monday next week. Crown Prince Akishino, 58, is the younger brother of Emperor Naruhito. Vietnamese province halts foreign firms’ partnerships with 328 farms over environmental issues
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Dong Nai Province, southern Vietnam has written to four foreign-invested firms asking them to suspend cooperation agreements with 328 livestock farms as these farms have no certificates of completion of environmental protection works. Previously, the department, in collaboration with relevant agencies and local authorities, conducted inspections to assess the adherence to legal requirements for environmental protection by nearly 10,000 livestock farms and poultry facilities in the province. The four-month comprehensive review of documents and on-site inspections resulted in the discovery of 328 pig and chicken farming operations across 10 out of 11 districts and cities, excluding Bien Hoa City, holding livestock farming contracts with four foreign-invested enterprises without the necessary environmental permits.
