The UK and the European Commission (EC) have agreed to sign a proposal to Vietnamese government for setting up a partnership for energy transition between the group of seven developed economies (G7) and Vietnam, British Cabinet Office Minister Alok Sharma has stated. The UK minister released the information at his meeting in London on Thursday with visiting Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, who arrived on Tuesday for a three-day visit at the invitations of Speaker of the UK House of Lords John McFall and Speaker of the House of Commons of the UK Lindsay Hoyle, the Vietnam News Agency reported. Vietnam’s labor ministry requests support for Vietnamese victims in toxic gas leak in Jordan
The Vietnamese Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs has recently asked relevent agencies and businesses to provide support for five Vietnamese nationals who were killed and seven others injured by chlorine gas released by a dropped tank at Jordan’s Port of Aqaba on Monday. The Vietnamese victims had been working on the Hong Kong-registered Forest 6 vessel when the chlorine tank fell from a crane onto its deck, said the Vietnamese Embassy in Saudi Arabia concurrently with Jordan on Wednesday. The Department of Overseas Labor has requested companies that have provided seafarers to the ship to urgently supply necessary support to the wounded crew members and the families of the dead in the accident. Agencies concerned will announce the names and other details of the Vietnamese victims in the toxic gas blast, the department said, adding that any wounded victim wishing to be repatriated should be supported by the companies in conjunction with relevant agencies. HCMC seeks to build Vietnam’s largest port in Can Gio
In a statement sent to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Thursday, HCMC Chairman Phan Van Mai said the city has received a proposal from Terminal Investment Limited (TIL), the second-largest container carrier in the world, to build the port in Can Gio. TIL, owned by Switzerland-based Mediterranean Shipping Company, has signed a framework agreement with HCMC on cooperation in the field of seaport infrastructure development and logistics services in the city. As proposed by TIL, the port in Can Gio will have a dock of more than seven kilometers long to receive 24,000-twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containers, the world’s largest, with a throughput capacity of 10-15 million TEUs per year. The transshipment port is expected to be built through seven stages and the investor, TIL, wishes to start work on the first phase in 2024 for operation four years later. Following the rising global momentum for implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and domestic policy direction towards carbon neutrality by 2050, the seminar gathered key policy makers from relevant ministries, leaders of business associations, key CEOs, managers and representatives from both foreign and domestic enterprises based in Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh City proposes construction of $6bn int’l transshipment port
Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have proposed the construction of a US$6 billion international transshipment port in outlying Can Gio District. The proposal was made by chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Phan Van Mai in his document sent to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Thursday. The investment into the port was originally suggested by MSC Group – the world's largest shipping group, Vietnam Maritime Corporation, and Saigon Port. The project is expected to have about 7.2 kilometers of wharves and cost approximately $6 billion. The port will be able to receive the world's largest container ship, which can carry 24,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containers, while its capacity will be around 10-15 million TEUs. The implementation of the project will be divided into seven phases, with the developers hoping that the first phase will be initiated in 2024 and put into operation in 2027. Children from across Ho Chi Minh City have spent their first few weeks of summer visiting the children’s section of the General Sciences Library, located in downtown District 1, to read in a comfortable environment and participate in a variety of clubs and activities. Nguyen Ngoc Lan, a fifth grader from District 3, has spent nearly the entire week at the library eagerly reading books and participating in the dozens of activities hosted by staff and guests there, including storytelling sessions and advice on choosing new books to read. New books, new activities Lan did not have much love for reading when her mother first brought her to the library, but the time the young girl has spent making new friends and enjoying the library’s activities has turned her into a true bookworm with a particular interest in outer space and comics.
