Vietnam is emerging as one of Southeast Asia’s most popular tourist destinations for international travelers and experts. More than 100,000 foreign experts are living and working in Vietnam. Vietnam is in need of a national digital tourism map which features tourism resources, destinations, and service providers to support tourists as well as local tourism service providers. The proposal on the digital map has been made and attracted the attention of local enterprises, but it has yet to be rolled out. Nguyen Quoc Ky, chairman of Vietravel Holdings, a local travel firm, said the digital tourism map would meaningfully increase the competitiveness of Vietnam’s tourism sector and help sell more tours at higher prices. $42mn coastal route put into use to boost economic development in south-central Vietnam
A coastal route costing nearly VND1 trillion (US$42.5 million) has been put into use for economic development in Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam. The coastal route was put into operation in Van Ninh District, Khanh Hoa Province on Monday morning. The road, stretching from National Highway 1 to Dam Mon Peninsula in Van Phong Bay, located in Van Ninh District, is about 14.3 kilometers long and 34 meters wide with six lanes. The project was developed by Van Phong Economic Zone Management Board, and the construction was initiated in 2016. The road was built to create favorable conditions for transport infrastructure in the region, connect Hon Lon Island with other islands in Van Phong Bay, and gradually complete the infrastructure of the northern area of the Van Phong Economic Zone. Vietnam’s Long Thanh int’l airport project probably behind schedule again
Phase one of the Long Thanh International Airport project in Dong Nai Province, southern Vietnam may miss the deadline to be put into service in 2025, as lots of work for the first phase is being carried out at a snail’s pace, especially the selection of a capable contractor to build its passenger terminal. Experts in the field said this project falling behind schedule would make Tan Son Nhat International Airport in neighboring Ho Chi Minh City even more overwhelmed by a soaring number of air passengers and result in a large amount of opportunity cost for economic growth. Vietnamese gov’t to seek legislative nod on 3-month e-visa validity
The Vietnamese government will seek the lawmaking National Assembly (NA)'s approval for a proposal that visitor e-visa validity would be increased to three months from one month for foreigners who want to enter Vietnam. The Government Office has released conclusions of the government’s Standing Committee on visa exemptions for foreign citizens and a number of immigration policy changes. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh earlier chaired a meeting over the issue, during which the Standing Committee asked the Ministry of Public Security to team up with relevant agencies to complete proposals on e-visa validity extension and immigration policy changes to be submitted at an upcoming NA session, scheduled for May this year. According to these proposals, Vietnam would extend the validity of e-visas granted to foreigners entering the country to three months from no more than 30 days for single entry or multiple entries. Danish artist hatches epic global troll hunt
COPENHAGEN -- A Danish artist famous for his towering wooden trolls sent fans on a worldwide quest Monday to find his latest creation. Thomas Dambo has created a complex treasure hunt to find "Moon Mother", his 100th troll sculpture, who he said has "crawled into the most secret spot in the forest" to give birth. His giant figures inspired by Scandinavian folk tales are often located off the beaten track to tempt children and adults to venture out into nature, and to show what you can do with recycled materials.
