Speaking at a tourism event held in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday, Huynh Phan Phuong Hoang, deputy general director of tour operator Vietravel, said that the revival of the inbound market in Vietnam has yet to reward the significant efforts that businesses have dedicated in recent time. Authorities in Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong Provinces, located in Vietnam’s south-central and Central Highlands regions, respectively, have sought to develop a 103km-long expressway linking the two localities in the 2025-28 period, said a local official. The administration of Khanh Hoa recently told relevant agencies to work with a consulting unit on a proposal to develop the Nha Trang - Lien Khuong Expressway project, Nguyen Tan Tuan, chairman of the Khanh Hoa People’s Committee, said on Thursday. In early September, the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) lowered anti-dumping duties on frozen tra fish filets from Vietnam following its latest preliminary conclusion. The Federal Register, the daily journal of the U.S. government, published the preliminary results of the 19th anti-dumping duty administrative review (POR19) by DOC on Vietnam’s frozen tra fish filets exported to the U.S. in the August 1, 2021 - July 31, 2022 period. Accordingly, the U.S. authority determined that two Vietnamese companies, Vinh Hoan Corporation and Can Tho Import Export Seafood Joint Stock Company (Caseamex), which were selected for individual examination as mandatory respondents, will enjoy a tax rate of 0 USD per kilo and 0.14 USD per kilo, respectively. Number of int’l tourists to Vietnam bounces back
Under the amended Law on Exit and Entry of Vietnamese Citizens and the Law on Foreigners’ Entry into, Exit from, Transit through and Residence in Vietnam, the e-visa validity period is extended to 90 days from 30 days, and for multiple entries. According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, since the beginning of this year, the sector has welcomed 8 million international arrivals, reaching the set target. The county expects to receive about 12 million foreign visitors this year. Tour operator Vietravel revealed that in the first eight months of 2023, the company completed up to 80% of its plan on welcoming international tourists, including those from the E.U. and the Republic of Korea (RoK). Owner of Hoi An bakery apologizes for mass food poisoning incident
The owner of Banh Mi Phuong, a well-known bakery in Hoi An, a tourist city in Quang Nam Province, issued a public apology following a mass food poisoning incident which began early last week and involved 141 victims as of Thursday last week. Truong Thi Phuong, the owner of the bakery, made the apology on her personal Facebook account as well as the on the bakery’s fan page. She wrote that the incident has affected the health, spirit, lives of customers. “We had shortcomings in controlling input materials as well as ensuring the quality [of products] before providing them to customers.” The bakery has been working with competent agencies and is waiting for test results of its food samples in order to identify the cause of the incident. It has also been adopting solutions to ease the consequences of the incident.
