Vietnam police break up transnational drug ring, seize bricks of heroin
Police in northern Vietnam have broken up a transnational drug ring and confiscated a large amount of narcotics and weapons. The Department of Public Security of Dien Bien Province confirmed on Friday that it had coordinated with the anti-drug police division of the Ministry of Public Security and police in northern Laos in order to break up the drug racket, which smuggled drugs from Laos into Vietnam. They identified 15 suspects in the case, who hail from the Vietnamese provinces of Dien Bien and Lai Chau and the Lao provinces of Oudomxay and Phongsaly. Laos expects to serve 1.4 million tourists this year

9-year-old girl stuck between two walls in northern Vietnam rescued
P.P.A., a nine-year-old girl in Lao Cai City of the namesake northern mountainous province, was saved from a 25-centimeter gap between two houses on Friday. According to the Lao Cai Province Police, at about 4:15 pm, local residents detected the girl who got wedged between the walls of two houses in Kim Tan Ward, Lao Cai City after falling from the second floor of one of the two houses. Two vehicles and more than 20 firefighters and rescuers were later detached to the scene to save the girl. The gap between the two walls was determined to be 25 centimeters wide and have no exit. As a result, the girl could not escape from the gap herself. To pull the girl out of the gap, rescuers dismantled part of the walls. After nearly 30 minutes, the girl was saved. Two Lao men arrested for drug trafficking
Border guards from Vietnam’s central province of Nghe An on January 26 announced that they have busted a drug trafficking ring led by two Lao men. Two Lao men are arrested for transporting drugs into Vietnam on January 25. The two men, aged 32 and 21, were arrested in Pieng Cooc Village, Mai Son Commune, Tuong Duong District at noon on January 25 while transporting meth pills into Vietnam. Police seized 12,000 meth pills, 12 kilos of opium, two knives, and some other objects. The men told the police that they bought the drugs from Laos, then transported them through the border gate into Vietnam during the 2023 Tet Lunar New Year holiday and intended to sell in the country.
