Financial support for laid-off workers: Labour confederation
Trade union members and workers who lost their jobs or had their working time reduced from October 2022 will receive financial support up to 3 million VND. ( Photo: laodong.vn) Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) has passed a resolution on support to its members and workers who lost their jobs or had their working time reduced from October 2022 because their enterprises suffered from a reduction in order. Accordingly, trade union members will be given support from 1 million VND (42 USD) if they lost their jobs or halted working for at least 14 straight days between October 1, 2022, and March 31, 2023. Members who lost their jobs or halted working for at least 30 straight days will get a support of 2 million VND. Those who have their labour contracts terminated between October 1, 2022, and March 31, 2023, but fail to get unemployment insurance benefits will receive a support of 3 million VND each. Nestlé Vietnam supports 8,000 disadvantaged people for Lunar New Year
Nestlé Vietnam has teamed up with the Dong Nai Labour Confederation to provide 1,000 gifts to union members and workers in difficult circumstances in the province. The company also coordinated with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Nai to offer 500 Lunar New Year gifts to disadvantaged people. In addition, Nestlé Vietnam also participated in programmes to provide Lunar New Year gifts to poor and disadvantaged women and children in four border provinces, as well as workers in industrial zones in Hung Yen province. Other recipients were female workers in Ho Chi Minh City who cannot return to their hometown during the festive break; disadvantaged students who travel from Ho Chi Minh City to their hometowns for the holiday; and poor households, near-poor households, and orphans struggling since the pandemic emerged in 2020. Adhering to the law in termination of labour contracts in Vietnam
Ho Tuong Vy - Lawyer, Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association As a general rule, an employer is entitled to terminate a labour contract unilaterally with an employee in specific circumstances. A legal basis was, inter alia, incorporated into the Labour Code which came into effect in 2021, permitting an employer to unilaterally terminate the labour contract if an employee arbitrarily leaves or gives up his/her job without justifiable reason for a period of at least five consecutive working days. The justifiable reason in question, pursuant to Article 125.4 of the Labour Code, includes a natural disaster, fire, illness of the employee or his/her relatives as certified by a competent medical establishment, or other circumstances prescribed in the internal labour rules. Free buses offered for Danang workers to return home on Tet
Around 3,000 workers in difficult economic circumstances in the central city of Danang have been provided with free buses home for the Tet Lunar New Year. The Danang Labour Confederation has arranged 67 buses for workers on routes from the northern region to the northern-central province of Thanh Hoa, the southern central province of Binh Dinh and the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak. Many children also returned home to celebrate Tet with their parents. Ho Thi Le, a worker from Yuri ABC Company, said that her husband is from Binh Dinh. They got married in 2019. Since then, they have enjoyed the fourth free Tet bus trip to Binh Dinh on Tet. All of the workers felt very happy to be granted free transportation. This year, many localities nationwide have offered similar free buses for workers to get home for Tet. SABECO thriving on 2022 results

On the local stock market, SABECO (code SAB) shares in the first week of 2023 saw three consecutive rises, reaching a high of VND183,500 ($7.90). The brewer attained bright financial prospects for 2022 thanks to the recovery of socioeconomic activities. Although it targeted $1.5 billion in net revenues and $200 million in after-tax profit for the year, a respective increase of 32 and 17 per cent on-year, SABECO accomplished 96.6 per cent of its profit goal in the first nine months alone. SABECO was one of the few firms in the Vietnamese stock exchange system to retain annual dividends last year due to its potential in the consumer sector, annual cash flows, and sizable cash reserves.
